Why does an industrial blade never wear down evenly?

Even a high-quality industrial blade does not wear down uniformly along its entire length. This is a normal phenomenon, caused by the varying working conditions it is subjected to during cutting.

✔️ Wear is never the same everywhere
Cutting pressure, the material being cut, speed and the way the blade is used can create areas that are subject to greater wear than others.

✔️ The centre and the tips work differently
In many applications, the load is not distributed evenly. Some areas of the blade are under greater stress and therefore tend to wear out more quickly, affecting the quality of the cut and the efficiency of the process over time.

✔️ Sharpening is essential
Sharpening a blade is not simply a matter of restoring the cutting edge. When carried out correctly, it compensates for the different areas of wear and restores the blade to its optimal geometry, improving both its performance and service life.

At MVM Srl, we analyse every blade before sharpening, because every sign of wear tells the story of how it has been used. Only through a thorough assessment can we identify the most suitable treatment and guarantee reliable results over time.

One machine, many applications. Why choose a versatile sharpening machine?

When it comes to industrial sharpening, every tool has its own specific characteristics and requirements. Having a machine capable of adapting to different machining operations means optimising investment, reducing downtime and increasing production flexibility.

MVM’s BM650/850 was developed precisely with this objective in mind.
Designed for sharpening planer blades, thanks to its dedicated accessories it can also process:
✔ disposable blades (Tersa and similar);
✔ shaped carbide knives;
✔ chipper knives;
✔ blades for plastic and PET recycling.

The automatic grinding wheel feed, the robust cast-iron table with T-slots and the cooling system all help to ensure precise, consistent and reliable sharpening, even during the most demanding operations.

For those working in the woodworking or recycling sectors, choosing a versatile machine means being able to respond efficiently to a variety of production needs, without compromising on the quality of the result.

Why cooling is a crucial stage in industrial sharpening ❄️

During industrial sharpening, contact between the tool and the grinding wheel generates heat. If left unchecked, this can directly affect the quality of the blade.

✔️ Overheating
This affects the stability of the process and the cutting conditions.
✔️ Loss of hardness
The material’s structure may change, reducing its ability to retain its edge.
✔️ Blade deformation
Thermal expansion can compromise precision and balance.

Proper cooling is essential for maintaining stable geometry and consistent performance over time.
