Mediterranea is the in & out furniture line in PLA (polylactic acid) with the addition of natural dye. Combining design, craftsmanship with digital technologies, Medaarch furnishings are made through an additive manufacturing process, thanks to the use of 3D printing. Thus, armchairs, stools, dining chairs, comfortable seats and chaise shorts emerge through the addition of materials, designed with
a computational approach to design, through the use of 3D modeling software. The aim of the project is to interpret plastic furniture in a Mediterranean key in the name of innovation and sustainability in order to make it functional, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. The modeling through the design software allows to define bold geometric shapes ensuring the resistance of the surfaces, dynamism and lightness, minimizing the use of the material and the consequent weight. Part of the Mediterranea project is Unique, the collection of 3D printed ceramic vases that blends artisan tradition and digital innovation. The project is based on the writing of a computational design algorithm capable of “generating” ceramic pots to be printed with additive digital manufacturing techniques. The result is design products with a unique morphology, which come to life from the fusion of technology and the human factor in a mix of exclusive shapes.
