When Metal becomes Tapestry
The Weaving in Metal collection begins with a paradox: how can metal - a material defined by strength and permanence, embody the suppleness and lightness of textile? By reimagining the traditional craft of basket weaving in stainless steel, brass & copper, this collection redefines both material and technique, transforming the rigid into the fluid, and the cold into the unexpectedly inviting.
Every strip of metal is cut, polished and woven by hand, preserving the rhythm of the weave while pushing the material to behave against its nature. The resulting furniture is strong yet delicate, sculptural yet functional. The focus is on constantly creating something unexpectedly warm, fluid, and inviting.
It is in this dialogue between strength and softness, permanence and impermanence, that the collection finds its voice. The metal pieces have a textile like delicacy, where in the curves and patterns give it a sense of lightness and softness. It’s this tension between material and technique that makes the pieces so compelling - a celebration of craft in a contemporary language.
This work stands as a testament to the future of Indian craftsmanship - a space where tradition and modernity coexist seamlessly. By pushing the boundaries of basket weaving and granting it permanence in metal, the pieces bridge cultural heritage with a contemporary global aesthetic, reaffirming the relevance of craft in today’s world.
