'On Home: Mapping Identity and it's relationship with the domestic space in Kolkata ' is a four-part digital workshop where we will explore the relationship between the different spaces of Kolkata and our identity by drawing, mapping and discussing our experiences.

Chloé has been exploring the relationship non-gender conforming, q***r people and women share with their experience of the home. This digital workshop will be an occasion to discuss this topic from the comfort of each person's home. Each person will draw the floorplan and cross section of their current home space, they will map what spaces in the city feel safe or unsafe, they will finally imagine their dream home situation as a way to rewrite the current spatial situation. Ideally, the final work will be exhibited at Amra Odbhut or in the space of Alliance Française, and digitally, this will be decided with the participants.

Number of participants : 8-10

This workshop will be facilitated by architect , artist in residence at the Indo European Digital residency Kolkata

A focus on individual and collective writing and responding will form the crux of this community, and is aimed at expanding and deepening our writing and reading practices in a space where q***r and trans voices and narratives are centered and celebrated.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to DM us at .odbhuth or email us at [email protected]

What is it to be Dalit, trans, and still persist in STEM? Grace Banu, a technologist and a fierce activist, talks about the same as she takes us through her life in this comix.

We often wonder about our ancestors’ community spaces and chosen families. What did our/their homes look like? Was there evidence of q***rness in its corners? How did our ancestors make their tea? Did they stir it in all at once, or did they wait for the water to boil? Were they surrounded by wilderness? What were their totems, and what are our portals to them?

In imagining pasts, the ordinary holds histories, secrets, and transformative power. It holds trees under which our trans ancestors sat sharing a conversation at the end of their day. It holds mirrors, reflections of the unknown, and boxes with too many things in them. It holds albums with missing photographs, living rooms with papers, chairs, and empty cups at the end of the day.

We often wonder who our non-binary and trans ancestors were, what they looked like, how they dressed, what jokes they told. We also wonder how future q***r generations would see us today, as their ancestors. We wonder if we can be all three of these past, present and future selves simultaneously.

For the last four years, we have been dreaming about putting together art and stories to ask these questions, and to share what visual forms these pasts and futures can take in the imagination of our community. In the face of erasure, how do we fill the gaps with wonder and fiction?

Over this next year we will be exploring these narratives. We are so excited to share and engage with you.

Send us a DM or comment if you'd like to know more and be involved. :)

While we try to find our way back to community and back to you, we want to know how you've been connecting with your chosen families and contexts. What are the spaces in which you are finding community, whether online or in person? What barriers have felt most difficult to overcome in those spaces? What part of physical community spaces do you miss most?

Hi folks please help trans folks displaced by cyclone Amphan at this time of need. Several are homeless and need all the support they can get to rebuild their homes.

The horrifying cyclone Amphan has wreaked havoc all across West Bengal. With the aim to rise above this crisis, we have set up a special relief fund. Support us by donation.
