Sienna Calcutta

Sienna Calcutta Sienna is a homegrown brand that that tells the story of Bengal through its craft and food design.

Sienna was born out of a need to preserve, nurture and re-visit the ancient art forms of rural India. Founder Sulagna Ghosh collaborates with the artisans to create modern and functional products using age old methods of producing terracotta and glazed pottery, handspun textiles, woodwork and cane artifacts, among others. Having been brought up in India’s culture capital Calcutta, in a household t

hat fostered the arts, she always knew that she would be happiest in the field of creative design. After graduating from university in New York, she returned to Bengal at an opportune time. Equipped with a global outlook she joined her mother’s folk art workshop in Santiniketan , which was set up to provide employment to the rural people in the surrounding area. She connected deeply with the cause and through this her inherent passion for design found a channel. A serious patron of the arts, she is committed to the preservation of these time honored traditions. Additionally she recognizes the need to breathe new life into classic art forms by introducing modern designs and techniques to these craftsmen. She strives to break down cultural boundaries and existing prejudices to enable collaboration between different artisans specializing in different art forms. Through the storefronts in Kolkata she is determined to pave for these gifted artisans the avenues they need to bring their products to a larger metropolitan marketplace.

follow chef to see what’s in his bajaar bag today.

as summer settles over bengal, the bajaars begin to shift in colour and texture. ruby-red litchis, translucent taal shaansh, bright green kakrol — produce that feels almost defiant against the harshness of the season.

these ingredients are deeply seasonal not only in availability, but in feeling. whether eaten to cool the body, mark the brief sweetness of summer, or anticipate the rains to come, they reflect a cuisine that responds closely to weather, appetite, and time.

this sensibility finds its way onto the plate in our fruit ricotta salad, where summer litchis are paired with soft cheese and fresh fruit to create something light, juicy, and cooling—echoing the colours, textures, and relief of the season’s produce at the bajaar.

cold, tangy, colourful, and just a little nostalgic — sienna’s frozen yoghurt with homemade tutti frutti has become one of our most-loved dishes on the menu ✨

before the season changes and the dish makes way for something new, we wanted to finally tell its story — one shaped by preserved fruit, pre-liberalisation bakery culture, frozen desserts, and the familiar sweetness of mishti doi.

this dessert will only be around for a little while longer — making now the perfect time to come back for one more spoonful, or try it for the first time 🍨

cnx - - 🛬 - - ccu

last october, and discovered .san.chiangmai a place they kept going back to 2 nights in a row. somewhere between those evenings and conversations with .daniele at bar san, an idea took shape to bring a slice of that experience back home to calcutta 🥂

fast forward to now—calcutta in may. a bold move, truly. and yet, team bar san is making the trip down from chiang mai. one of thailand’s best bars, they’re going to present a thoughtful fusion of their japanese and scandinavian cocktail culture 🍸

on may 9, find .alika.aa and .daniele from bar san at bar-a-bari. our first international collaboration for bar-a-bari, one we couldn’t be more chuffed about

for reservations, call +91 99036 08899, lock in your spot and we’ll see you there? 😉🍸
