List of Events and their rules:
1) Thematic display – What the Dickens! (For classes VI to X)
A novel by Charles Dickens (Lots will be picked to decide which one)
- Make charts
- Dress up
- Create an ambiance
- Team must bring all materials required
- Two hours will be given
- Two children will be required to talk about the display and explain it after it is ready.
We will provide
1. A room
2. 1 soft board (6 feet x 4 feet)
3. 2 soft boards (2 feet x 4 feet)
4. 1 black board
5. 6 desks
6. 6 chairs
7. 1 plug point
Please give us a folder that holds details about your display to facilitate judging.
2) Yours Quizzically
- Team of 3 students from classes VIII, IX and X
- If required there will be a preliminary elimination round
- The final round will have multifaceted questions and 1 literary section.
3) Cover to Cover (For classes VI and VII; Classes VIII and IX)
- Design a book cover of an actual or an imaginary book.
- Both front and back covers are to be designed.
- Time: 1 hour.
- 1 participant in each section.
- Paper will be provided.
4) Theme Music for a Tale of Two Cities
- Empty stage to empty stage – 7 minutes
- Maximum of 6 participants from classes VI to X
5) Dumb Charades
- 1 minute to enact the topic given without any sound.
- Rules will be explained at the event.
- Topics will be Book Titles in English
- Participants – 3 member team, 1 each from classes VI, VII and VIII.
6) PowerPoint Presentation
- On an Indian writer in English
- Every team will have 2 students from classes IX and X
- Students will be required to prepare their presentation beforehand and it will be shown at AVSAR.
- Duration: 5 minutes.
7) Theme for a Dream – Creative Writing
- 2 children from classes IX or X – individual entries.
- A poem will be read out. Participants will be given 1 hour to prepare their responses to the reading and another hour to write the same.
8) The Proverbial JAM
- No. of participants: 1.
- Time for each speaker: 30 seconds.
- Each topic will be spoken for 1 minute.
- For objecting, the participant should slam the table and say, “JAM”. The chairperson decides if the participant is allowed to put forth his / her objection.
- Penalty if the opponents object substantially on any one of the following grounds:
(a) Stuttering, stammering and general indulgence in time wasting tactics. These include efforts to buy time with speech extensions like “uhh”, “ahh”, etc.
(b) Early start or late start.
(c) Grammatical errors.
(d) Undue stress or emphasis on words.
(e) Repetition of a previously used idea or word.
(f) Chairperson’s decision will be final and binding.
9) The Argumentative Indian
- Debate Topic will be sent to schools one week before the event.
- 2 speakers from classes IX or X – one to speak for the motion, one against.
- Time given to each speaker: 3+1 minute.
- Rebuttal Time: 1 minute.
10) All the World’s A Stage (Classes VI to X)
- Play – Enactment of any literary work.
- Maximum 10 participants.
- Time: 25 minutes (empty stage to empty stage)
