Odoo Configuration vs. Customization: They're Not the Same Thing.
One of the biggest mistakes businesses make during an Odoo implementation?
Assuming that every business requirement needs custom development.
It doesn't.
⚙️ Odoo Configuration
Think of it as setting up what Odoo already provides.
You can configure:
→ Workflows
→ User permissions
→ Taxes
→ Approval processes
→ Existing features and settings
No major code changes required.
🛠️ Odoo Customization
This comes into play when your business needs something that standard Odoo doesn't provide.
For example:
→ A completely new feature
→ A custom module
→ A unique business workflow
→ Third-party integrations
→ Changes to existing functionality
Here's the real question:
Just because you CAN customize Odoo, does that mean you SHOULD?
Not always.
Too much customization can increase complexity, maintenance requirements, and future upgrade challenges.
The smarter approach?
Configure first. Customize only when it creates real business value.
That's the difference between simply modifying an ERP and building a system that can grow with your business.
What does your business rely on more—configuration or customization?
