📍Kongu Nadu Flavours at Their Finest – Valarmathi Mess, Coimbatore 🍛🔥

Asked my friend Ajay for a truly authentic Kongu Cuisine experience on my recent visit to Coimbatore… and boy, he delivered! 👏🏽

Even at 2:30 PM, Valarmathi Mess had a crowd waiting outside, and it didn’t stop till past 3:15! This legendary local hotspot is clearly not a secret anymore.

Ajay, who runs a travel company, has been asking me to try this place for a while – and he made sure we didn’t miss it this time (thanks for pulling strings on the waitlist, mate 😅).

🍗 What we had:

• Pichu Pota Kozhi – a starter so good I didn’t stop till dessert time
• Thick, spicy Mutton & Naatu Kozhi Kuzhambu served in mugs – homely and fiery
• Short grain Mutton Biryani – tender, flavour-packed, soul-satisfying
• Mutton Sukka and Kola Urundai – rustic, bold, chunky!
• Vanjram Fish Fry – fresh, well-marinated, and cooked to perfection
• Mutton fat masala – rare treat, indulgent and unforgettable 😎

Caught a glimpse of the super-optimized kitchen—fast, clean, and ready to roll with volume!

The AC dining space was a blessing, though we had to step into the non-AC section to wash hands and settle the bill 😅

💰 Meal for 2 with many sides and mains: ₹1,753
🎯 Verdict: Hot, fresh, spicy, nostalgic, and deeply local!

We were pleasantly surprised when Chef invited us for dinner with his fellow Chefs at a newly opened restaurant. is a modern contemporary restaurant serving regional cuisine from Ukraine.

The interior reflected on their culture through the furniture, cutlery and the clothing which the hosts wore. The kitchen was designed to have a live fire cooking making it a rustic presentation of flavors and experience. I thoroughly enjoyed their limited menu which still operates in a limited capability as they are still under trial. To my surprise the place was fully packed during the weekday. The restaurant is set in the picturesque Palm, Dubai and was cosy despite being a chilly evening.

We were offered some breads, oil and cheese to begin with. We did introduce ourselves and we were pleased to meet Chef Chef and Chef Frank Bordoni.

Chef David Mizon is a prolific teacher, judge and a well know expert in bakery and pastry. Even though Chef David Mizon gave us a heads up, we were pleasantly surprised with the down to earth nature of these amazing chefs and to take note of them being wonderful humans.

Back to the food, it was simple, hearty and delicious. We are no expert when it comes to this cuisine, but the evening taught us plenty of invaluable lessons. Some of the great masters are still open to learn new things and they strongly believe that learning is a continuous process. Many of them are also willing to see other’s perspective without being judgemental. Clarity in communication is a great gift that many of us fail to give priority.

Chef David had chosen this venue as one of his young aspirant competing chefs (Chef David is a Judge in many International Culinary Competitions) have started to work here serving some amazing Ukrainian Food. Chef Marsha is a brilliant upcoming Chef who is passionate and very committed to her craft. It was heartwarming to see Senior Chefs take such efforts to encourage young talent into the industry. Wishing Chef Mikhailo Berehoviy, Chef Marsha and Team YoY Dubai all the very best!

It was truly a remarkable evening meeting some wonderful human beings who were also great Chefs.

Prems Graama Bhojanam owner and operator NS Krishnamoorthy sir is always generous and makes some amazing and healthy food. Everyone is a big fan of his food and kindness. We at are no different. He had sent us some millet based rasam sadham and curd rice with some poriyal and masala vadai. The taste of the sadhams were outright delicious and to know that they were much healthier than regular rice was a pleasant surprise.

The Masala Vadai was hot, crispy outside and deliciously fragrant and soft in the inside. Thoroughly and truly one of the best Masala vadai we have had in recent times. The ultimate in the end was the dessert of the famous along with fresh and thick - this, we believe is inspired from the Thai Dessert of Sticky Rice and Mangoes. The sweetener was the much healthier version than sugar - country jaggery.

All together an amazing and soulful lunch from - Thank you sir!
