When 2500 troops withdrew from Afghanistan on 30 August 2021, the forces of the Taliban began their offensive that lasted 14 weeks. An offensive which brought down one of the most prominent Republics in the Middle East.
The conflict left in it’s wake unimaginable levels of destruction, despair and suffering. Characteristically, the global community reacted in their usual way; by reacting rather than responding. While the actions of the Taliban, both militant and administrative, were widely condemned and criticized, the rebuilding of Republic was left unaddressed. A country that is now is broken in every sense of the word. A country drowning at sea, staring down the tidal wave of political destabilization and the complex web of international relations.
The United Nations Emergency Session on the Reconstruction of Afghanistan (UNESRA) takes up the responsibility to discuss the crucial issue of rebuilding a decimated Republic, and ascertain it’s place within today’s geopolitical landscape.
Agenda — Discussing the reconstruction process in Afghanistan with special emphasis on the border disputes of the territory, and its legitimacy as a Republic.
