All our pieces follow a standard production timeline of 6 - 8 weeks and are proudly handmade in our workshops in Bangalore.

Over the last 30 years, we have maintained our standard of using solid wood such as American Beech and reclaimed teak for all our frames which plays an important role in the lifecycle of each piece.

Meet our Production Manager, Pandarunga Bapat.

Mr Bapat has been with us for more than 20 years and has played a monumental role in overlooking our upholstery workshop and quality control of all our pieces in Peenya. He started his career in Chesters working closely with Mr Ramaswamy in our old workshop in Central Bangalore and has a keen eye for aesthetics and proportions of period furniture.

Referred to as the fauteuil comfortable or the ‘comfortable armchair’ in France, there are practical considerations that go into the selection of a typical french club chair.

Here we have our Bo***ir armchair in a supple Nappa sand, pebbled and giving it a soft buttery look. The design is typical to the Art deco movement of the 20s, well proportioned at a seat height of 18 inches and usually takes an average of 20 hours to reupholster. Today these chairs make great statement pieces in your reading rooms and libraries.

Last week, our factory received this very old piece from one of our earliest clients for reupholstery. This John Wood the Elder, nearly 25 years old, comes straight from Chester’s original catalogue of 12 styles. Receiving pieces like this is always such a treat, as it is a quiet reminder to where it all started.

Each crease tells its own unique story, our signature Shadow leather due to its hand dyed nature allows these chairs to develop a beautiful two tone patina on the surface grain of the leather. This makes the process of reupholstery very meditative and more importantly, holds a responsibility for what this piece can be.

A glimpse of our deep buttoning process guided by our master upholsterer Afsar for the Knight 3-seater sofa.

Traditional deep buttoning has always been a hallmark of any Chesterfield sofa. It is a careful upholstery technique where the buttons are deeply compressed onto the upholstery frame at regular intervals in order for the buttons to hold its integrity against the wooden frame. These traditions are still maintained by our upholstery team for our Chesterfield selections.

Geetha Ramaswamy has always been the quiet strength within Chester’s. While many know her for her warmth and generosity, those who work closely with the business know her as a formidable organiser, a thoughtful administrator, and someone who carries people through change with care.

Following the passing of our founder, M. V. Ramaswamy, her role has become even more central. She has helped steady the business through a period of transition, supporting the team and guiding the next phase of Chester’s.

Her presence continues to shape the culture of the business, and growing it alongside her two sons.

It is the season of love and for this Valentine’s Day, we celebrate one of our local favourites, K R Flower Market. Located near the City Market, it has been at the heart of the city’s flower trade for decades, bringing together florists and buyers from across Karnataka.

Beyond commerce, K R Flower Market is a reflection of Bangalore’s deep relationship with flowers, the Garden City. Gifting flowers has always been one of the simplest and most enduring ways to express what words sometimes cannot. It feels natural that love begins here, picked fresh, wrapped with care.

One of our most recognisable wingback chairs, The Aristocrat draws from classic English design and a sense of proportion that never dates.

Its stationary back and generous wings give it presence without heaviness. Deep buttoning adds depth, while hand applied nailhead detailing defines its profile. Set on solid teak Queen Anne legs, it is a chair built for comfort, balance, and longevity.

For many in Bangalore, Sunday mornings begin at Cubbon Park. It is a familiar ritual; quiet walks, shared benches, and unhurried time under old trees.
More than a green space, the park has long been a meeting point for generations. In a city that grows and shifts constantly, Cubbon Park remains steady. A place where the pace slows, and where Bangalore feels most like itself.

Here is a piece that was returned to us by a long standing client after more than 25 years of use. As you can see, the frame was originally made entirely from solid teak. At the time, this was our standard approach. Today, we use Canadian pine for the internal structure, reserving teak for the visible and external parts of the frame. This allows us to reduce our use of rare hardwoods while maintaining the same structural integrity and longevity we have always stood by.

That aside, it is genuinely satisfying to see a piece come back to us after so many years, ready for reupholstery. The images show the chair mid process, worn, stripped back, and waiting to be carefully rebuilt, upholstered, and returned to its home.

Every month we spend time sourcing the finest timber for our frames.

Choosing the right wood is not a step taken lightly; it sets the foundation for everything that follows. Teak, in particular, demands a lot of close attention. Its natural density, character, and growing scarcity make it challenging to work with, but it is precisely these qualities that give it strength and longevity.

The Madame is our interpretation of the classic French club chair. Drawing from France’s storied club culture, it finds a natural place in living rooms, reading corners, and intimate lounges.

Upholstered in hand-finished leather and built on a solid wood frame, the Madame is shaped through careful proportions rather than excess detail.
