Prakrit The design- and furniture company PRAKRIT is based in Auroville and was born out of the cyclone Than Challenge us ! Our limit? Our imagination...

Auroville is an intentional international township located in the South of India near Pondicherry, lying in a man-made forest with millions of trees. In December 2011 the cyclone Thane took down many trees and our first work was to collect all this wood, to send it to sawmills for cutting and then to store it for drying. PRAKRIT design and furniture was born out of seeing all this beautiful wood –

and working in the saw mill created an interest in working with the natural forms instead of cutting out straight boring planks. The furniture of PRAKRIT is based on trying to see the beauty of the natural wood and its shapes. We are trying to create objects of utility with respect for the wood and its beauty. PRAKRIT has a range of designs in Organic Forms, but also furniture based on Scandinavian Design Traditions where form and function have to merge. PRAKRIT also does individual design fitting the need of the customer.

We have delivered these beautiful bar counters, discussion table,conference table, as well as the funky hi-table that wraps around a pillar in the middle of the room to Toit BrewPub in Bengaluru (for their office space).

It was our pleasure to work with Venu, Abraham, Sunanda….
