This summer my team and I had the honor of working at the Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Center, Jerusalem on the Auschwitz model created in 2005 by the Polish artist Jack Stobierski.

The model depicts the horrific workings of the concentration camp. It is constructed of several buildings and some 3500 figures. The materials are wood, metal and plaster.

Working at a museum can be tricky when 4000 visitors pass through the hall every day where the model is displayed. We took advantage of the lockdown due to the pandemic to carry out an in-depth intervention on the model.

Our job was to thoroughly clean the buildings and figures, reinforce and stabilize loose parts, copy missing elements and restore the overall finish.
