YES… that was me earlier making all that noise on Kilcullen Main Street on a Sunday! 😂

Right outside the doctors’ surgery, I wasn’t exactly taking it easy either! Once I’d finished the front, I had to head around the back and tackle the path there too.

The back had a good little bit of w**ds and was very mucky, but nothing that Kenny’s Outdoor Cleaning & Handyman Services couldn’t sort out. 👊🏻

A good clean-up, all the w**ds removed and the paths brought back looking fresh again.

PROBLEM → SOLUTION

This gate had failed because it simply wasn’t braced properly. The original support was allowing the gate to sag and twist, putting unnecessary strain on the hinges and frame.

The solution was to build it properly from the start — solid horizontal rails, with a correctly positioned diagonal brace to stop the gate dropping and keep everything square.

Sometimes the problem isn’t the materials — it’s how they’ve been put together.

What was hiding underneath? 👀

Last week I shared a little teaser from this garden and said I was really hoping there was some beautiful coloured sandstone hiding underneath all that black and white lichen… 🤞😅

Well… look at that transformation! 😍

A thorough clean has brought all those gorgeous natural colours back to life, and what a difference it makes to the whole garden.

And the best part? The customers’ reaction says it all:

“Kenny are you sure that’s our garden you are showing me?? It looks absolutely amazing. Thanks so much for achieving that result for us. 👏😘😘”

That’s exactly why I love what I do. ❤️
Taking something that’s looking tired and weathered and revealing what’s been hiding underneath.

What’s hiding underneath? 👀

I’m really hoping there’s some beautiful coloured sandstone hiding underneath all that black and white lichen! 🤞😅 (First picture)

This patio is absolutely covered, but if it’s anything like a recent job I completed, there could be some gorgeous natural colours and patterns underneath all that grime.

Remember that sandstone patio?

I was back to finish the job by re-sanding and filling all the joints, and it really finishes it off.

The sandstone is looking fresh again, the natural colours have been brought back to life, and the newly filled joints not only look great but also help keep the paving stable and discourage w**d growth.

I always like to see a job completed properly from start to finish. It’s the little finishing touches that make all the difference.

🌟 clarification 🌟

Just to clarify, it’s not actually a hosepipe ban, it’s a Water Conservation Order. There’s a difference.

The aim is to reduce unnecessary domestic water use so there’s enough water for everyone while reservoir levels recover. Commercial businesses are exempt because it’s their livelihood. They generally use the customer’s water supply, but they’re allowed to do so under the exemptions.

Think of it like this: if there was an Electricity Conservation Order, you’d probably be asked to cut back on non-essential electricity use at home, but you wouldn’t expect factories, supermarkets, restaurants or other businesses to switch off and stop trading. The same principle applies here. The priority is reducing overall demand while allowing businesses to continue operating and people to earn a living.

It might not seem completely fair at first, but millions of households each saving a little water has a far bigger impact than stopping a relatively small number of businesses from working.

This patio had definitely been calling out for a clean… so today was the day! 💪

The customers have a brand-new patio set arriving tomorrow, so I gave the area a freshen-up just in time.

✅ Low-pressure cleaned using a surface cleaner
✅ Followed by a targeted biocide treatment to tackle the remaining organic growth
✅ No unnecessary high pressure, helping protect the stone while getting great results

The sandstone is looking bright again and they’re delighted with the difference. 😊

You’ll notice a few faint “lichen shadows” in places – that’s simply where the lichen has permanently stained the stone over the years. The growth has been removed, but some natural staining can remain.

📍Cleaned using a low-pressure approach to minimise water usage and reduce the risk of damage.

Why does black lichen love sandstone? 🪨
Sandstone is a natural, porous stone. It absorbs moisture and provides tiny surface pores for lichen spores to settle into. Add shade, damp weather and a few years without treatment, and black lichen can become firmly embedded in the surface. That’s why it often needs a specialist chemical treatment rather than just high-pressure washing.

A mixed week 😊

It’s been one of those weeks with a bit of everything.

Unfortunately, a number of customers decided to postpone their pressure washing appointments because they were worried about the current hosepipe ban. As a commercial pressure washing business, I’m still allowed to operate, but I completely understand why people wanted to wait until the restrictions are lifted. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer!

The jobs I have managed to complete have been really satisfying though, with some lovely patio transformations. It’s always rewarding seeing the difference a good clean can make. 💦✨

I’ve also spent a bit of time chasing Bosch over my circular saw (works fine but top buttons not working) so fingers crossed that gets sorted soon. 🤞

And finally, my two furry supervisors made sure they were included this week… 🐈❤️ Zoé was happily relaxing in the garden while Rémi was showing off his impressive sleeping gymnastics! They definitely know how to enjoy life. 😹

Thanks to all my customers for your patience and understanding. Here’s hoping next week brings a little less uncertainty, plenty of work, and maybe even some rain like this morning!

🚿 – Just to clarify…

I’ve had quite a few calls from worried customers asking if they should cancel their pressure washing appointments because of the hosepipe ban.

The answer is no. 😊

As a homeowner, I’m not allowed to use a hose to water my garden, wash my own van, (or cats 😊 🐈 🐈‍⬛ ), or carry out other restricted domestic activities under the current Water Conservation Order.

However, as a one-man professional commercial cleaning business, I am allowed to continue using hoses and pressure washing equipment as part of my work.

I also make every effort to minimise water use by using professional equipment and cleaning methods that use water as efficiently as possible.

So if you’ve booked me to clean your driveway, patio, walls or windows, it’s business as usual.

🦷 What is soft washing?

Think about brushing your teeth.

You don’t blast them clean with a pressure washer—you apply toothpaste, let it do its job, then gently brush away the bacteria and stains. Soft washing works in exactly the same way.

A specialist cleaning solution is applied to the surface, allowing it to kill algae, mould, mildew and other organic growth before the surface is gently rinsed. This cleans the render without the damage that high pressure can cause.

Monocouche and other rendered finishes are especially prone to algae and mould. Over time, the surface slowly weathers, becoming slightly rougher and more porous. That creates the perfect environment for moisture to linger and for organic growth to take hold.

One thing I always explain to customers is that clean doesn’t always mean “brand new.”

When the algae and mould are removed, you may notice “ghosting” or shadow marks. These aren’t dirt left behind—they’re usually areas where the render has weathered differently over the years or where the original render or protective coating wasn’t completely uniform. The organic growth was simply hiding those natural variations.

The good news is that the biological contamination is gone, the surface is sanitised, and the property looks brighter, cleaner and healthier.

Every home is different, and I’d always rather set honest expectations than promise the impossible.
