🎉 30 years of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA): From individual mobility to shaping the European Research Area 🎉

Since 1996, MSCA has grown from a fellowship programme into one of the most important European instruments for developing research talent, fostering international collaboration and strengthening scientific excellence. 🌍🔬

📊 Key achievements of the programme:

🔹 More than 150,000 researchers have received support through the MSCA

🔹 23 Nobel Prize laureates have benefited from MSCA support during their careers

🔹 Around 8,000 researchers participate in MSCA-funded programmes each year

🔹 Nearly 50% of participating organizations come from the business sector

🔹 Around 40% of researchers come from outside the EU.

Croatia has also recorded steady growth in participation:

✅ 86 projects funded through Horizon Europe

✅ More than €10.4 million in EU funding secured

✅ 116 Croatian institutions involved in projects

✅ A success rate of 17.6%, above the programme average.

For three decades, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions have demonstrated how international collaboration, knowledge exchange and researcher mobility create the foundations for scientific breakthroughs and a more competitive Europe. ✨

📢 The call for proposals for MSCA Doctoral Networks 2026 is now open!

⏳ Deadline for submitting project proposals: 24 November 2026
💶 With a budget of €593 million, the call supports the development of international doctoral programmes aimed at training the next generation of researchers.

🧩 Consortia bring together universities, research organisations, and partners from industry and other non-academic sectors.

The call promotes:
🔹 international and intersectoral mobility
🔹 excellence and innovative research
🔹 collaboration between the academic and non-academic sectors
🔹 research career development and knowledge transfer.

📊 Strong participation of Croatian organisations in the Horizon Europe programme
📈 Infographic: Croatia’s participation in Horizon Europe (2021–2025) – key indicators and trends (in Croatian!)

Croatia is showing continuous growth in participation and an increasingly strong role in the European research and innovation landscape.
🔹 434 projects and 677 participations by the end of 2025
🔹 €167.9 million in net EU contribution – more than in the entire Horizon 2020 programme
🔹 Success rate of 16.14% (above the EU average of 15.27%)
🔹 57% of funding secured under Pillar II – Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness

🌍 The highest share of EU contribution was achieved in the areas of: Cluster 5 – Climate, Energy and Mobility; the horizontal programme Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area; and Cluster 6 – Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment.

🎓 By type of organisation, higher education institutions lead (31%), followed by the private sector (29%) and research organisations (16%).

Croatian researchers and organisations actively contribute to European priorities through competitive proposals and participation in international consortia – and this positive trend continues to grow.

Ministarstvo znanosti, obrazovanja i mladih i Agencija za mobilnost i programe Europske unije organiziraju Godišnju konferenciju programa Obzora Europa pod nazivom „Europski strateški forum za istraživačke infrastrukture (ESFRI) i djelovanja Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) kroz vrijeme: Budućnost europskog istraživačkog prostora”.🔬

Ovogodišnje izdanje obilježava dvije važne obljetnice:
• 20 godina od donošenja prvog nacionalnog plana razvoja istraživačke infrastrukture
