We are living in an extremely dynamics and complex era, under social and economics points of view, but many facts make us believe that we’re probably living the dawn of what many already consider the third industrial revolution. We’re leading toward a kind of Economics that is not based on production and goods sales concept, but mostly on sharing and the possibility of produce autonomously many of
the products we need. In this context Design has always more the task of being a good idea, a good project, ecologically and economically sustainable. The growing number of makers are showing us that it is already possible. Thanks to current technologies we’re already able to print many objects at home. Eventually even implement techonologies like Arduino, giving us the possibility of create objects connected amongst them. During the ’70 years many designers, amongst them Enzo Mari that published “Autoprogettazione” (Self-designing) – a book gathering many furniture projects that today we could consider open source – brought to people’s attention, with a great long view, the importance that the concept of know-how would have in the near future. To have the possibility to build many objects we need in our daily life.
