Rokani

Rokani "ΡΟΚΑΝΙ" (Rokani) is the greek word for plane, which has been the favourite wood working tool for the woodcarver Yannis Moraitis.

Yannis Moraitis lives and works at Melissohori, a village in the outskirts of Larissa - a city in the centre of mainland Greece - where he runs his wood working workshop. Wood is his favourite material but he also enjoys working with other found objects thrown away in streets and beaches. With these, he constructs unique furniture, sculptures and various charms. He works both on commissioned items

and his own unique pieces. "Ροκάνι" (spelled rokani) is the Greek word for plane, which has been his favourite wood working tool (in his workshop he maintains a large collection of wooden planes). "ΡΟΚΑΝΙ" is also his creative identity.

Ο Γιάννης Μωραΐτης ζεί και εργάζεται στο Μελισσοχώρι Λάρισας όπου διατηρεί εργαστήρι ξυλουργικής. Το ξύλο είναι αγαπημένο του υλικό, του αρέσει όμως να δουλεύει και με άλλα υλικά που βρίσκει πεταμένα σε δρόμους και παραλίες. Μ' αυτά, φτιάχνει μοναδικά έπιπλα, αντικείμενα τέχνης και φυλαχτά. Δουλεύει με παραγγελίες αλλά και με μοναδικά και ιδιαίτερα - δικά του - κομμάτια. Το ροκάνι έχει υπάρξει αγαπημένο του εργαλείο ξυλουργικής (στο εργαστήριο του διατηρεί μεγάλη συλλογή από ξύλινα ροκάνια) αλλά το "ΡΟΚΑΝΙ" είναι και η δημιουργική του ταυτότητα.
