In 2008, British surgeon David Nott was volunteering with Médecins Sans Frontières in the Democratic Republic of Congo when he faced a critical emergency.

A 16-year-old patient needed a complex, life-saving operation - but the procedure was extremely rare and difficult to perform, especially in a field hospital with limited resources.

So, Nott contacted a colleague in the UK.
The guidance came back through a simple SMS.
Step by step, the text messages helped him carry out the operation and save the patient’s life.
It is a powerful reminder that sometimes the most important technology is not the most advanced one.
It is the one that connects people when it matters most.
