For centuries, this room has been at the heart of Brympton. Originally built as the Elizabethan Great Hall, it would once have been the main gathering space of the house - a place for welcoming guests, celebrations and daily life at the estate. Long before wedding receptions and champagne towers, this room was designed to impress.

With its huge stone mullioned windows flooding the room with natural light, the Great Hall feels especially beautiful in the evening as the west-facing sun pours through the windows and fills the room with golden light.

In winter, the open fire transforms the space completely - warm, intimate and incredibly inviting for indoor drinks receptions, candlelit gatherings and post-dinner cake cutting.

One of the things couples love most is how versatile the hall becomes throughout the day. A dramatic entrance space, a relaxed drinks reception setting, somewhere for guests to gather between moments… all while surrounded by hundreds of years of history.

The Salon at Brympton House 🍽️

One of the original state rooms of the house, the Salon was once used as the drawing room - a space designed for conversation, music and gathering guests after dinner.

Today, it remains one of the most elegant and atmospheric rooms in the house.

Filled with natural light from the tall south-facing windows, with views across the terrace and grounds beyond, it feels both grand and welcoming at the same time.

One of its most fascinating details?
The ceiling is traditionally finished using goats hair plasterwork - a historic technique often used in important country houses for strength and durability.

And as the evenings draw in, the working fireplace transforms the room completely, adding warmth, candlelight and that unmistakable country house atmosphere.

A room layered with history, yet still made for bringing people together.

As evening falls and candlelight flickers across the tables, this room comes into its own.

Set on the south-facing side of the house, the ballroom was designed to capture light, views and atmosphere - with tall 16th-century windows looking directly across the South Terrace, lake and formal gardens beyond.

For centuries, rooms like this were created for entertaining; dining, music and gathering together long into the evening.

And that feeling still remains today.

One of the things that makes Brympton so special is how every part of the house feels connected to the landscape around it. From the South Terrace below, redesigned in the 1800s as a grand promenade space for entertaining, guests make their way up to the grand Ballroom for dining.

Even now, it feels exactly as it was intended to:
full of light, movement and celebration.

A room with history in every detail, yet made for modern weddings that feel relaxed, immersive and unforgettable.

Golden hour settles over the West Front at Brympton House ✨

As the sun dips the ancient stone of Brympton glows with the warmth of centuries past. Nestled in 33 acres of grade 2 listed gardens, this remarkable house has stood at the heart of the local landscape for over 700 years.

Once home to generations of the Sydenham family, Brympton is celebrated as one of England’s most beautiful country houses - blending medieval origins with Tudor and Georgian elegance. The surrounding Somerset countryside is steeped in history too, from ancient farming communities to nearby abbeys and manor estates that shaped the region for centuries.

Tonight’s sunset across the West Front feels timeless - soft pink skies, golden stone, and the peaceful stillness that makes Brympton so unforgettable.

A perfect Friday evening in Somerset.
