Oriental Opulence. 🐉

They simply don’t make statement furniture like this anymore…

This impressive Chinoiserie bureau bookcase features a striking red lacquered finish, beautifully decorated with intricate Chinese countryside scenes.

The carcass dates from the 18th century and was expertly lacquered during the early 20th century, combining generations of craftsmanship in one exceptional piece.

From its elegant swan-neck pediment and astragal-glazed doors to its fitted bureau interior and five graduated oak-lined drawers, there’s something remarkable to discover at every level.

A functional piece of furniture and a true work of art.

The eagles have landed at 🦅

We’ve truly struck gold with these pieces!

Our personal favourite, is the highly decorative, early 20th century, antique, gilt and marble top console table.

You could really feather your nest with this stunning item.

In Roman mythology it is thought that an eagle symbolises power, protection and authority.

It’s all about the grains! 💪 🪵

Can you tell the difference between walnut and mahogany?

🤎 Walnut is usually mid to dark chocolate-brown, with a distinctive swirling or figured grain. Its natural variation made it a popular choice for elegant veneers and decorative furniture.

❤️ Mahogany typically has warmer, reddish-brown tones and a straighter, more uniform grain. Renowned for its strength, durability and beautiful polished finish, it became particularly popular during the Georgian and Victorian periods.

However, colour alone doesn’t always reveal the full story. Age, sunlight, polish and restoration can all change the appearance of antique timber.

Our experts examine the grain, weight, construction and hidden areas to help identify a piece’s timber, period and history.
