Good morning All, welcome to Sunday School a place to Learn, Share & Create Change. Meet Sybil Phoenix, OBE, a trailblazing figure in British social activism, a community leader, and a pioneer for race relations and social justice.

Sybil Phoenix, OBE, is a pioneering British social activist known for her dedication to race relations and community work. Born in Guyana in 1927, she moved to the UK in 1956, where she quickly became a champion for Black youth and marginalized communities in London. In 1971, she founded the *Moonshot* youth center in Lewisham, a vital space for Black youth, which she rebuilt after it was destroyed by fire in 1977. She also became a foster mother to many children, offering them a safe and loving home amid systemic racism.

Her activism extended beyond youth work, promoting better race relations and collaborating with national organizations to foster unity. In 1973, Phoenix became the first Black woman awarded an MBE for her community service, and later received the OBE in 1996. She also championed women’s rights, founding programs to support women in crisis, including victims of domestic abuse.

Sybil’s relentless work earned her numerous awards and honorary doctorates. Her legacy as a foster mother, community leader, and advocate for social justice continues to inspire generations.

A remarkable woman with a heart of service, Sybil Phoenix’s influence extends far beyond the streets of Lewisham. Her life’s work embodies resilience, compassion, and the unshakeable belief that change can happen, even in the face of overwhelming odds. In Sybil Phoenix, we see the embodiment of grace under pressure, and her contributions to British society will continue to be remembered for generations to come.

MY THOUGHT OF THE DAY

The last day of filming ( for the season) at the repair shop (yesterday) feels like the closing of a well-loved book, each chapter filled with quiet moments of care and craftsmanship. The air hums with a bittersweet energy, as the smell of wood polish and old leather mingles with the sense of finality. Tools, once animated by the skilled hands of the experts, now rest quietly, their work complete. Every item in the shop, from forgotten trinkets to family heirlooms, carries stories of renewal, each one touched by a loving heart.

As the last light spills through the dusty barn doors, casting warm, golden hues across the benches and shelves, there’s a sense that time has paused just long enough to savor these final moments. The creak of the workshop doors, the murmur of farewell between the team—it all lingers in the air like a whispered secret.

In The Repair Shop, they haven’t just fixed things; they’ve stitched together the fragile threads of memory and meaning. And now, as the cameras are packed away and the workshop falls quiet, there’s a deep peace in knowing that what was mended here will carry on, far beyond these walls.
