This week I am away from my yarn and my stash and my shop and… apart from occasionally knitting on the newly cast-on Musselburgh, I haven’t touched yarn. But the biggest joy came from wearing out knits ‘in the wild’. Today I wore my only hand knitted Merino pullover and we both wore our woolly socks to soft play. And somehow seeing them and knowing I spent all those calm mindful hours making them brought me immense joy.

One of my favourite things about making random pick and mix micro skeins is watching the colours blend together, sometimes intentionally, sometimes unexpectedly. Often this is an inspiration for a new colourway.

Have you made any yarn yet autumn/Halloween decor for yourself or someone else? I gathered all my knitted pumpkins and pretty stash yarn and dyed a bunch of orange-brown for the pick and mix. I haven’t made anything this year, but it’s not too late yet.

Yesterday I started a new slow project. It’s not for sale, it’s just for me. Us. It is a continuous spiral gradient crochet blanket, worked with a 2.5mm hook and what claims to be a DK bamboo and cotton yarn (but is in fact thinner than that). I bought it in bulk on Vinted last year. Now it’s time has come. It will be slow and mindful, because 1) I am crocheting with thirteen yarn balls at the same time and 2) I cannot crochet without looking directly at it. I can knit stockinette along Netflix but I cannot crochet like that. So this winter, this will be my mindful project. And possibly for a few winters after that.

This is the book containing the prawn pattern. The pattern is also available on Ravelry. It is called ‘Prawn’ and is by Susie Johns.
The book is ‘Twenty To Make - Knitted Fast Food’.
It contains fun knots like a samosa, pizza slice, sandwich, fish and chips, cherry pie, donuts, biscuits, burger and sushi 🙂 🥧 🦐 🍕 🍔 🍣

This one is for everyone who showed the prawn some appreciation at unravel… a festival of yarn ! I have made it a part of my autumnal /Halloween decor and I have also located the book the pattern came from, so watch this space and I will soon be posting where you can find the pattern (no, it’s not mine, I wish I was that clever though!)

I used to hate going to London, now I just… endure it 😂 I love the landscape, the knitting on the train and relaxing with a bit of coffee from home, but I am not keen on the noisy hot underground with overwhelming adverts, busy traffic and smells. Luckily, I get to travel back and do more knitting and come home into our small-ish town.

I am slowly transitioning my 10g pick and mix to the BFL nylon base. These micro skeins are intended for socks and so far the BFL nylon base is the sturdiest and most durable one I have for socks. At the moment, it is a beautiful mix of both. Of course, I will be bringing the LOT to unravel… a festival of yarn this weekend, where you will be able to make your own unique set or an advent calendar! 🥰🧶🧵
