Another oak rocking chair being made in the Hill Top Furniture workshop at the moment. This my 21st chair! This one is a bit different because I have not bought any wood to make it. I had lots of lovely pieces left from making oak chairs over the last year and I worked out that I had enough to make another chair!
Also this chair it's unusual because it is not being made for anyone. I had booked May off in my calendar because I am training for the and didn't want work to get in the way. This chair will be done in any spare time I have. And I am sure it will find someone to love it!

Latest job delivered this morning. Pair of dark oak corner cabinets. Very strange request from the customer. They gave me a photo of a corner cupboard which they used to have and said that is what they want. They are basically a direct copy of this photo! Harder to do than you would think as the photo wasn’t that great!

Latest project ready for delivery. This is a boot bench designed to take 5 pairs of large riding boots. Made from ash with a little piece of walnut. The walnut piece started off as a horse shoe shape and got toned down quite a bit!

Just delivered another rocking chair! This one is an ash chair made from a very colourful bit of olive ash. The back braces are made from Hazel. This was in memory of the customers Mother who passed way recently and was called Hazel. ❤️
I managed to get hold of some Hazel branches which I cut into laminates and made the back braces. Something a bit different!

Delivery day for the walnut rocking chair today. This is the second chair for this customer. 🙂
Lovely to see them together, although they are both the same design, one is for a very tall person and one for a small person.

The first English Walnut rocking chair I have done. I managed to find a slab of walnut which was just big enough for the job. Had to work around a nail and lots of shakes, so it has not been the easiest build I have done! I am very happy with the result!

Happy Christmas to everyone!
This is the small ash chair which I delivered last week. We had managed to keep the delivery a surprise. The customer knew it was coming and had seen photos, but originally I had arranged a delivery in the New Year. As you can imagine she was quite surprised to see me at the front door!! 🧑‍🎄🎄

Ash rocking chair almost ready for delivery. Just a few coats of oil needed. The lovely ash came from my supplier in St John in the Vale. The tree came from his parents farm there. Local wood! 🙂
This is my 18th chair. Still loving making them. Next one is for the same customer and is going to be made from English walnut.

Another oak rocking chair going out of the workshop next week. I love this back view of the chair. Maloof joints, quarter sawn oak, laminated back braces with sycamore centres. Gorgeous curves and very comfortable.
This is a small chair. I had a really useful visit from my next customer who is only about 5’ tall. This chair was slightly too large for her, but I got some great measurements from her so I can now make a chair exactly right for her.
