Hi, I’m Helen of Nova Nest UK Upcycled Furniture. I have a passion for bringing new life into unloved or outdated furniture to create beautiful, unique pieces which will transform any room. Many older pieces of furniture which may seem dated and ready for the skip can have amazing bones, structure, character, detailing and shape – this is what I look for when picking up pieces to upcycle or re-pur
pose, you would be amazed at how different something can end up looking with some TLC, patience and creativity. One of the best parts about breathing new life into old furniture is that it is potentially being saved from landfill and hence contributing to reducing our carbon footprint. My style is to create pieces which will fit into the modern home. I use a mixture of mineral paint, decoupage and wallpaper to add texture, sometimes replacing or restyling original handles and fittings or adding feet or legs. All items are fully prepared and finished in either wax or water based satin or flat matt varnish to ensure a good protection and durable finish. I do not believe in simply painting over all wooden furniture, sometimes this needs to be preserved and treated to show the beautiful grain. In other cases, the wood benefits from being painted and really brings a piece to life. I find that each piece of furniture has a character of its own and as I start to work on it and familiarise myself with its form, I decide on a suitable name for it which you will see on my listings 😊 it’s a bit of fun naming my furniture but as each piece is unique, I think they deserve a new name for their new life! Commissions: As well as creating my own pieces to sell, I also offer bespoke commission’s;
- Do you like the idea of having a piece of furniture that nobody else will have?
- Maybe you have been looking for the right piece to fit into your room but have been unable to find it. Maybe you already have it but you are not aware of this!
- Do you have a piece of furniture which is old-fashioned, worn out, stashed in the garage or in the corner of a room under an old cloth, just waiting to be taken to the tip? Or maybe you are just keeping it for sentimental reasons. It may be suitable for a restyle which will stand proud in your home and save you from buying something new. Not only will this save you money but you will be playing your part in landfill reduction and therefore helping to protect the environment. Contact me for a friendly no obligation chat/quote on what I could do to transform your piece. [email protected]
