Fancy sprucing up your home this Summer? Inner Piece Upholstery, who are part of Lady Bay Upholstery Collective, are running two new workshops in June at All Hallows Church Hall, Lady Bay to help you do just that.

On Saturday 10th June from 2pm to 4pm you can try your hand at making a 30cm drum lampshade to be used for a table lamp or ceiling pendant light. All materials are provided except the shade fabric.

Or if you fancy revamping a drop in seat dining/occasional chair, why not have a go at modern upholstery. The upholstery workshop is on Saturday 24th June 1.30pm to 5pm and all upholstery materials, except the top fabric are included in the price. Don't have your own chair to re-upholster? I have seat frames that you can learn upholstery skills on and take away with you at the end of the class.

Still not sure? See the reviews from those who attended my last workshops. No experience is necessary, you'll have fun and leave with something lovely for your home.

For further details and prices please email me at [email protected]. But hurry! Limited places are available on both workshops.

Introducing the other founder member of Lady Bay Upholstery Collective…

Hello, I’m Gemma, founder of . After over a decade of working as a performance analyst in a variety of professional sports, I decided it was time for a change & I moved out to the country of my birth, New Zealand. I had a fantastic three years there & spent most of my time living & working at an old Homestead planning weddings & events alongside rearing racehorses (quite the mix!). Renovating the homestead in the gaps between events reignited my love of all things interiors & restoration.

On my return to the UK & I went on a short upholstery course to reupholster a footstool left to me by my Grandmother. I loved it so much that I decided to make upholstery my new career & enrolled at The Ministry of Upholstery in Manchester to learn all about the craft. During this time I developed my ideas to bring together two of my passions, sport & interiors. The picture above is me creating my first sports chair, using two All Blacks shirts that I used to wear non-stop during my teenage years (swipe across to see the finished chair!).

At Embrace Bespoke, I specialise in creating luxury homewares that celebrate & showcase the sporting & family stories of my clients. From putting sports shirts onto chairs, footstools, headboards, cushions & more as a fantastic, unique way to celebrate your team through to reupholstering family heirlooms.

Creating pieces that embrace the happy memories of my clients & celebrate their stories inspires me every day. After all, I’ve always believed that the best way to make a house a home is to fill it with items that mean something to you & reflect your family.

Introducing one of the founder members of Lady Bay Upholstery Collective.

Hi, I'm Karen the owner of Inner Piece Upholstery. I started my business after completing my training in modern and traditional upholstery at Mode Upholstery School near Peterborough. Prior to this I was employed in a variety of jobs from marketing a theatre to investigating environmental crime. I've always been interested in working with my hands and learning new skills, and upholstery was on my to do list for so long. After completing an upholstery taster day I was hooked, and signed up immediately for more formal training. I found that I naturally gravitated towards traditional upholstery, as I enjoy the process of building up and stitching in the layers of coir, hair and wadding to create a comfortable piece of furniture that will last many more years. The fact that re-upholstering also contributes to a reduction in furniture going to landfill is really important to me.

The pandemic offered me the opportunity to re-assess my career and I decided to start my business taking commissions for re-upholstering armchairs, dining chairs, footstools and headboards. I like stripping back old furniture to find what's underneath the fabric and fillings. Every piece of furniture is unique and presents a new challenge, and that's what keeps me excited and interested. I've had the privilege of working in collaboration with other artisan makers and have some fabulous clients. I love my job and hope that shows in the care and attention I put into all my work.

Lady Bay Upholstery Collective was formed during the pandemic lockdown when we realised we were both running independent upholstery businesses in the same suburb of Nottingham.

Rather than compete against each other, we decided to join forces and create a collective where we could share our passion & expertise.

We continue to run our individual businesses, Gemma at
& Karen at , but we come together under the umbrella of the Lady Bay Upholstery Collective to market our services locally.

Over the course of the next two weeks we’ll be giving you an introduction to each of our individual businesses to give you an idea of who we are and what we do.
