New year, new piece of furniture 😀.

I’m finally coming out of the covid fog - anyone else feel like that after having it? Really knocked me despite being vaccinated. Anyway, I’m finally getting back to work. In a couple of weeks I’m spending the weekend getting my workshop ready so I I can produce more work like the sideboard in the photos. I really love the simplicity of the lines and the bright colour that brings the piece back to life. I added the hairpin legs to give it a lift.

It can’t be easy to think that light, bright and modern interiors don’t always work in period properties. This photo (credit ) shows that’s not the case. The white walls and colour pop from the chairs look stunning!

I love antiques too though and will happily browse them for hours and have a few antiques mixed in with the modern stuff in our own home.

So I think you can marry up the old and new very happily whatever the age of your home. Do you agree?

Here’s a pop of colour on a beautiful sunny day. This G Plan unit was another that I rescued after it had been covered in thick, thick grey paint. To me it was crying out to be yellow and I love this shade, ‘Trumpet’ by

Where I could save the wood I did and carefully restored it whilst adding some other geometric hints of colour.

This piece could work well as a small sideboard, drinks cabinet, or (my favourite) general ‘shove stuff out of the way so the house looks tidy’ storage!

Mid-century love🧡

This Morris of Glasgow sideboard was in a very sorry state when I got it. The front legs had collapsed, it was scratched all over and the shelf was missing from the drinks cabinet part of the unit (maybe too many drinks had been consumed and the cabinet got knocked over🤪 ).

I have fully restored the wood, and hand painted unique geometric designs on the front and top of the sideboard. It now needs a forever home (although it's currently in our sitting room as I love it so much!).

Colours and memory? I love colour but I wonder if I'm drawn to brights like this as they remind me of my childhood (Naf Naf jumpers anyone 😂)? Do your favourite colours remind you of a particular time?

It's great to have colour around your home but if you're not feeling like a whole wall of colour then some pops of colour in your furniture can work for you instead.

On World Environment Day I’m going to have a think about further changes we can make as a family to be restoration. The kids will moan about more meat free meals (although some of the meat free mince has fooled them - ha!) but small steps are surely worth it. And of course upcycling furniture helps 😉.

I love our garden and especially spring flowers 🌸. I feel really strongly about doing my bit for the environment - refinishing furniture is just one of those ways and stops more items ending up in landfill.

Unloved furniture can be carefully restored and finished to give you a piece for your home that you love - and do your bit for the environment at the same time. Win win!

I love this room that was in a couple of months ago. It’s perfectly what I’m about - white and airy room with a pop of colour from the furniture and of course plenty of artwork.

‘Emphatic like the blast of a trumpet’ is one of my favourite quotes about colour 🌈.

My kids got me a great Mother’s Day present (aside from the coffee in bed!). I keep borrowing their pencils for sketching work designs so they got me my own set along with a new pencil case. As they pointed out it wasn’t just any pencil case - they’d got one made of 80% recycled materials as they knew I’d appreciate that. I try and be green minded wherever possible.
So this week I’ll be happily sketching out new designs using my own pencils 😆.

Anyone who’s ever spent time with my son knows how obsessed he is with planes, especially Concorde and British Airways so when it came or redecorating his room there was only one way to go with this chest of drawers.

He can now put all his plane memorabilia on it. He absolutely loves it and that has made me very happy! 😀
