🥂 Happy National Refreshment Day! 🥂

When I heard that Bissinger & Co Premier Cru Champagne from Lidl had been awarded World's Best Champagne at the 2026 World Drinks Awards, I was intrigued.

At just £24.99, I had to find out whether it lived up to the acclaim.

I'm pleased to say it actually does!

In the glass, it shows a beautiful stream of fine, persistent bubbles, with aromas of crisp green apple, fresh citrus and delicate brioche.

On the palate it's fresh, elegant and beautifully balanced, finishing cleanly with just enough richness to keep you reaching for another sip.

Working in Hospitality, and spending much of my time tasting and pairing wines with food, I always appreciate discovering bottles that offer exceptional quality without the premium price tag.

Would I buy it again?

Absolutely. In fact, I think it's one of the best value Champagnes I've tasted in quite some time.

Five years ago, on the 12th of June, I officially opened the Wee Dram Van under my ownership 🍻🥃

The Wee Dram Van was set up in the back garden at Mum’s, with family and friends gathered round, and Uncle Uisdean officially opened the van by cutting the rope 😀

Looking back now, I don’t think any of us quite realised where this little tuk tuk bar would take us.

Although the Wee Dram Van itself was first established back in 2018, these last five years have been an incredible journey of growth, memories, and Highland adventures.

Since then, the Wee Dram Van has travelled far and wide, poured thousands of drinks, attended weddings, parties, festivals and gatherings, and met so many wonderful people along the way.

From craft beers and Highland whiskies to cocktails and late night laughs. Every booking, every Dram, and every conversation has helped shape this journey.

To everyone who has booked us, supported us, recommended us, shared our posts, supplied us, helped behind the scenes, or simply stopped by for a drink and a bleather, Thank you. Truly. Your support means more than you know ❤️

A huge thank you to family and friends who have helped along the way and continue to support my Wee Highland business. Small businesses really don’t grow alone, and I’ll always be grateful for every helping hand, every share, every recommendation, and every booking!

🍸✨ It’s Aperitif Day and here’s one straight from the Glenmorangie cocktail book.

Introducing to you the Orange Mingle 🍊🥃🍸

A bright, citrusy cocktail with Glenmorangie Original, Aperol, orange bitters and marmalade bringing a beautiful balance of sweetness and gentle bitterness.

Fresh, vibrant and dangerously easy drinking, its the perfect pre-dinner cocktail for a golden Highland evening ✨

Paddington Bear himself would definitely approve of this one 🐻🍊😊

🍸 Orange Mingle ingredients
• 50ml Glenmorangie Original
• 15ml Fresh Lemon Juice
• 10ml Aperol
• 10ml Fresh Orange Juice
• 2 Dashes Orange Bitters
• 1 Large Bar Spoon Marmalade
or how about some Whisky marmalade for extra depth and that wee bit extra 😊

How to make:
• Add all the ingredients into a shaker and stir it first to break up the marmalade 🥄

• Fill about 3/4 of the shaker with ice 🧊 and shake vigorously until the shaker is too cold to hold.

• Double strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with an edible flower or some orange zest ✨

Now sit back, relax and enjoy 😊

🎶 Faith in Paloma restored 🍊

Not usually a grapefruit fan? ... well to be honest neither am I 👀

I tend to find it quite bitter and somewhat sharp but today is World Paloma Day, and this one might just have converted me.

Fresh citrus, a little sweetness, plenty of fizz and of course with a Highland twist ✨
The Wee Dram Van wouldn't have it any other way 😊

Whether you lean towards the bright botanical notes of Rock Rose Pink Grapefruit Gin or prefer something smokier like a Wolfburn Whisky Paloma, there’s definitely a Wild Side worth trying.

Served over ice, topped with pink grapefruit soda, fresh lime and finished with rosemary, thyme and a touch of salt… dangerously easy drinking if you ask me 🍸🔥

Today celebrates the first recorded 'definition' of a cocktail a way back in 1806.

I am currently on amoxicillin so naturally, a Penicillin felt like the only fitting cocktail choice for me to make today for World Cocktail Day! 🍋🥃

Sadly for me though this one’s for admiring rather than sipping but when life gives you lemons 🍋 haha 😄

It's just a touch less medicinal than the real thing!

Ironically El Draque: an ancestor of today's Mojito is claimed to be the first ever made cocktail back in 1586 for Sir Francis Drake's crew, made for medicinal purposes to treat scurvy, dysentery and sickness.

As Whisky/Uisge Beatha is the water of life, here's my Dram Van Recipe for a Penicillin

🥃 50ml Glenmorangie Nectar
🥃 15ml Ardbeg Wee Beastie (for the float)
🍋 20-25ml fresh lemon juice
🍯🫚 20-25ml homemade Honey and Ginger syrup
🧊Ice

To make the Honey and Ginger Syrup:
🍯120ml honey
💧120ml water
🫚 Fresh ginger slices (slice a bit of ginger about a the size of your thumb)

Combine the honey and water in a pan, add in the sliced ginger. Simmer it gently for about 5 to 10 minutes (becareful not to let it boil)
Cool it and then strain.

Now for the cocktail 🥃
Add the Glenmorangie, lemon juice, and honey/ ginger syrup into a shaker with some ice.
Give it a good shake.

Strain into a tumbler over some fresh ice.
As a classic Penicillin benefits from a smoky finish, gently float the Ardbeg Wee Beastie on top, by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon.

Garnish your creation with some candied ginger and/or with a slice of lemon.

Now enjoy! Hide away from that rainy windy day. Curl up on the settee and enjoy this smoky, sweet, zesty, warming and amazingly sophisticated 'dram'

From Unicorns to the Grand National 😊 what a weekend 🦄💫🏇

Yesterday we were raising a glass to a wee bit of magic for National Unicorn Day and today, we’re off to the races for the Grand National.

From mythical creatures to horsepower, we like to think the Highlands sits somewhere nicely in between. A place where legends exist, where legends are not just told, but where they are poured, slàinte to that!

Whether you’re backing a winner, picking a name you just like the sound of, or here for the banter, we’ll be cheering you on with a dram in hand 🥃🥂

No unicorns were spotted pulling the Wee Dram Van just yet...but give it time 🤩 we however caught a glimpse of a legend driving to an event near you!
