Apparently, the latest lunatic plan from those who purport to rule the area these days is to locate what the 'Touler' calls an 'astrological observatory' at the White Bridge, at a cost of approximately £1 million, although we could probably double that figure for a bit of gritty realism. Surely it would be a whole lot cheaper - and more accessible - to park Mystic Meg in a tent in the Square for a couple of nights per week, with tea and a scone thrown in? Or would £1 million be better spent on providing a decent bus service for the village? Answers on a postcard - or on a Heritage Lottery Fund ticket.

It seems appropriate that the first post on this page should be an appreciation of John Low, and all that he did for this community over many years. John stepped back from his job at the Highland Market, where he had provided an invaluable mobile grocery service to Tomintoul and roon' aboot for many years, to take over the running of the local bus service from his parents, Willie and Bessie. The 'Lass o' the Lecht' was a familiar sight on our roads at one time, providing a valuable local service, as well as being the vehicle for annual school trips; hands up those who remember singing 'she's got a lovely naval uniform' in the back seats! 'Thuper' will be fondly remembered by Toulers as a real stalwart of the community of which he was a lifelong member.
