In my studio, furniture becomes a canvas—and every canvas becomes a story.
This piece is part of my ongoing exploration of storytelling furniture, where familiar tales and beloved worlds are reimagined across surfaces, textures, and functional spaces. For this project, I stepped into the vivid mythology of The Wizard of Oz and the re-envisioned perspective of Wicked, blending elements from both to create an immersive, layered experience.
The exterior is landscape: bright skies, layered hills, and the iconic rise of the Emerald City glowing in the distance. I used poster by .ardentdesignuk . The cabinet’s natural curves allow the horizon to wrap organically around the form, as though the viewer is standing at the beginning of a journey. The green crystal k***s were chosen intentionally—they echo the theatrical sparkle of Oz while refracting light like enchanted gems.
But the storytelling deepens inside the drawers.
Each interior is its own scene, almost like stepping behind the curtain:
• One drawer reveals the texture of the Yellow Brick Road, worn by travel and invitation.
• Another turns into a field of scarlet poppies, a dreamlike landscape iconic in Oz
• Another drawer places you right at the gates of the Emerald City, immersed in its deep greens and looming architecture.
In one drawer, I placed a tiny pair of ruby slippers—not as a prop, but as a symbolic reminder of choice, courage, and perspective. In Wicked, we learn that even well-known stories can shift dramatically depending on who is telling them. I like my pieces to carry that same layered meaning: what you see on the outside is only the beginning.
Creating furniture like this is not about decoration; it’s about transformation.
Every surface becomes a page.
Every drawer becomes a chapter.
The finished piece becomes a physical narrative, inviting curiosity, nostalgia, and discovery.
