Renovating our seaside apartment has been a massive job. Inspite it having huge potential, beautiful features and a sea view, it was tired, grubby, cramped and had a strange layout. It’s been a labour of love and we’re finally nearly finished.
Today I thought I’d share the back bedroom makeover as this was the first room completed.
This bedroom was a very blue, very cluttered girls bedroom before we brought it. Once emptied the blue walls were grubby, lumpy and badly painted. All the woodwork was dirty and yellow and the painted floorboards were gappy and loose.
On the plus side it had really high ceilings at about 3 meters, nice skirting and a lovely original door with an original doorknob.
So the prepping began 🧰 !
Everywhere was cleaned🧽 🧹 🧼
All the wood work was sanded, the floorboards were fixed and levelled and the walls were filled and sanded.
Then the walls, door, skirting and window frame were painted white and the feature fitted cupboard was painted a lovely bright blue. 🎨
The cupboard is also lined with a pretty wallpaper (I forgot to take a photo in f the inside🤦‍♀️)
⛵️ Nautical paintings were hung, furniture purchased, built and positioned and accessories, curtains and bedding added that finishing touch.
More projects are on the go, the bathroom has just a few snags to sort and there’s some carpentry jobs in the living room, so more updates to follow.

Really please with this project. Finally got round to updating our downstairs bedroom. The previous owners had used this room was a dining room, when we set up the house as an Air bnb we wanted it to be a bedroom and simply changed the carpets and put in a bedroom set. I’ve always hated how bland it was, so it’s lovely to have it done. It took a lot of work: from sourcing new furniture, to replacing the light fittings and painting and decorating. Mark’s first attempt at panelling has turned out great (he’s always enjoyed a bit of carpentry so hopefully this will spur on some other jobs!) The white walls and deep green are perfect and totally reflect the outlook on to the garden and park beyond. The brass bed and French bedsides add a touch of glamour and the dressing table and accessories have a vintage feel. I put my handmade touch on the look by upcycling the original bedside lamps to coordinate with the green theme, macraming the deep green tie backs, lining the all the draws with a complimentary wallpaper and making matching coasters and lastly my first try at a decorative wall hoop. It’s all come together brilliantly and will hopefully be appreciated by our own family when they stay as well as this year’s Air bnb guests.

Finally finished our family shower room just in time for half term guests.
Unfortunately no before photos as we’ve never included the bathrooms on Airbnb as they all need a bit of love. Any way it was a blue woodchip cave, with a swirly artex ceiling, tiny click room sink with exposed pipes and small rusty radiator.
Now, even though it’s not big, at least it’s clean, white, modern and has a bit of a glow up. With its freshly painted, new plaster walls and ceiling, brighter lighting, new sink and cabinet, vintage feel towel rail and new black accessories.

A very creative and productive day of upcycycling on many levels today.
I finally finished lining the drawers of all our vintage bedroom furniture. I made a set of six coasters for use in our conservatory and I finished off a project for preschool of a set of painted pebbles play food for the children to play with in our outdoor mud kitchen. It’s surprising what can be achieved with some wallpaper, pva, paint and pebbles!

Been busy upcycling and crafting in our holiday home.
Upcycled an old door and mounted on the wall (with hubbys help) to display photos of Swanage in the hallway, added a vintage chair, that will probably be painted and reupholstered in the fullness of time.
Hung a fish print paper inside our glass fronted ikea cabinets, to hid all our files inside and decoupaged a matching lamp table in the same paper in the dining room and started on a project to macrame tie backs for all the curtains, so the curtains can be held back to maximise the views to outside.

Loving the way imagination, materials and time can transform everyday things, update unloved pieces, unify a scheme and put my own stamp on an interior.
