Final reminder ⏰

Tonight at 7pm I’ll be joining a panel discussion at Shoreditch Design Rooms to discuss the proposed changes to the Furniture and Furnishings Fire Safety Regulations.

We’ll be talking about what the proposals could mean for upholsterers, furniture makers, retailers and consumers, and explaining how to respond to the consultation before it closes.

Join us in person or on Zoom. Places must be booked in advance.

5,793 people supported the original campaign for change to the Furniture Fire Safety Regulations.

The Government listened.

Now we’re at the next stage.

The Furniture Fire Safety Consultation is open, but this isn’t a done deal.

Not everyone in the furniture industry supports these proposed changes, and there are organisations actively campaigning against them.

If we want to see positive change, it’s important that as many people as possible respond to the consultation before it closes on 23 June.

When the consultation first launched, the deadline felt a long way off. But we’re now into June, and it’s easy for something important like this to get pushed down the priority list.

That’s why we’re hosting a live Zoom discussion this Thursday at 7pm.

I’ll be joining Delyth Featherstone-Dilke, Sonnaz Nooranvary and Mathew Freeman to discuss the proposed changes, look at the four consultation questions, and give people the opportunity to better understand the proposals before submitting their response.

If you’d like to join us, DM me the word ZOOM and I’ll send you the joining details.

What questions do you have about the Furniture Fire Safety Consultation?

What are you confused by?

What would you like clarified before submitting your response?

On Thursday 4 June at 7pm, I’ll be joining

Delyth Featherstone-Dilke
Sonnaz Nooranvary
Mathew Freeman

for a live Zoom panel discussion kindly hosted by Louise Boyland of Shoreditch Design Rooms.

We’re keen to answer real questions from the furniture community, so if there’s something you’d like us to discuss, leave a comment below or send me a DM.

It’s also important to remember that this isn’t a done deal.

Not everyone involved in the furniture sector agrees on the future direction of these regulations, and the proposed changes have both supporters and critics across the industry.

That’s exactly why it’s important that as many voices as possible are heard before the consultation closes.

The consultation could affect reupholstery, furniture repair, second-hand furniture and future fire safety requirements.

If you’d like to join us on Zoom, DM “ZOOM” and I’ll send you the joining details.

Does this chair deserve landfill…absolutely not.

Especially when it could look as good as these 2 digital mock ups.

What do you reckon…landfill or has plenty of life still in it with some TLC?

DM me for an estimate.

Yellow is one of the most underused colours in interiors.

Used well, it brings warmth, personality and light.

These projects prove it đź’›

Never overlook a vintage chair.

Beneath the dark brown velour was a beautifully shaped, incredibly well made, Parker Knoll Froxfield with decades of life still left in it.

Reupholstered in Clarke & Clarke Delaney cut velvet, the whole piece feels lighter, fresher and far more current, while still keeping the comfort and character that made it worth saving in the first place.

This is the thing about good vintage furniture.

Most people only see what it is.

Upholstery lets you see what it could become.

She nearly walked past this Iconic ÂŁ25 chair.

Not because it wasn’t good.
Just because it didn’t look special, but it was a Howard Keith chair.

25 years ago it was sitting in a charity shop, covered in a fabric very much of its time.

And now, all these years later, it’s had another new chapter in Ashley Wilde’s Meteor Peacock fabric.

Funny how the best furniture often doesn’t shout for attention straight away, but looking beyond old fabric, you could have a superb chair underneath. Everything is better in new fabric.

An original Marcel Breuer long chair.

The sculptural wooden frame, the curved silhouette, the proportions. Perfection.

Pieces like this are why good design never really disappears.
