I specialise in go anywhere lightweight portable antennas for SOTA, field and eXtreme DX radio operations. The vision was to be able to provide a portable antenna for field/extreme activations that would out perform the widely used half wave coaxial dipole that many operators still used, but still be light and easy to attach to a fishing rod or other non conductive support or hung from a tree. idea developed and after around three months of development the "Thunderbolt SSD 58" was born. Its performance figures are impressive indeed! A Bit About myself:-

I have been constructing radio related projects since the age of ten. At the age of 15 and two new bedroom carpets later (soldering iron incidents), my parents bought me a shed.at the bottom of the garden This quickly became my "CB" shack and workshop. This is where my fascination of all aspects of radio and antenna building took off,

I built my first fold away 3 element yagi for 11 m portable work at 16 and could regularly be seen up on kinver edge "DX"ing with an old stalker 9 and a leson tw-232 and a car battery fixed to by push bike. I moved to Oz 3 years later and sold everything up, but i still had the bug. So within a few months I had built a 4 element yagi for 11m from an ARRL design and a 5/8 vertical and was the proud owner of a Pierce Simpon Super Cheetah. I came back to blighty to go to uni and did a combined degree in Electrical Systems Engineering and Product Design and Management. I have worked as an Electrical/ electronic systems designer and project manager ever since and have designed and managed 100's of systems projects from Australia to America and in between to date. Now that i have calmed down a little I thought I might get back into radio more seriously and hae constructed a radio shack/ workshop again athough I have always had a mobile station in the car or motorhome i really wanted a workshop to play in.I also did my intermediate ham Licence... and will do the advanced before too long. My favourite part of radio is antenna design and building and repairing anything radio related. I do love a bit of DX also which pushes me to be constantly trying to make improvements to my station and antenna systems. Now more than 30 years down the line from my first 5/8 wave creation, I have come full circle!
