I've become fascinated by the things that get tucked away in sewing boxes, cupboards and drawers.

Take an old sewing pattern.

At first glance, it can look like nothing more than a rather worn paper envelope containing pieces of tissue paper.

Among a collection of older sewing patterns, I came across this one.

A rather worn Vogue Paris Original pattern — Christian Dior, pattern 1837.

And, being me, I couldn't resist trying to find out more about it.

That little bit of investigation made me realise just how easy it is to overlook things simply because we don't immediately know what we're looking at.

Old sewing patterns, fabric put away for a project that never quite happened, boxes of buttons, trims, threads and tools gathered over years of making.

Some may have a value. Some may be unusual or difficult to find, and some may simply deserve the chance to be used and appreciated again.

I'm learning to look a little more closely before dismissing something as “just an old sewing pattern” or “a box of sewing bits”.

I have a feeling there are an awful lot of creative treasures sitting quietly in cupboards...
..and I'm becoming rather curious about them...😗
