We've listed a few options below and included some pros and cons, cost, durability and styling possibilities.
Granite
Pros: Granite is extremely durable and resistant to heat, scratches and stains — perfect for BBQ areas and poolside kitchens. Low maintenance, it won’t fade easily under sun exposure.
Cons: Can be expensive compared to other stones. The surface can be slippery when wet if polished. It requires regular maintenance
Cost: Typically £50–£120 per m² depending on colour and finish.
Styling: Granite is available in a huge variety of colours and patterns, from classic grey to speckled blacks and blues
Quartzite
Pros: Quartzite is a natural stone which is hard and durable like granite but often more visually striking, with superb veining and colour variation. Resistant to heat, scratching and staining, making it an excellent choice for outdoor kitchens and bars.
Cons: Can be pricey and polished finishes may be slippery. Needs occasional sealing to maintain stain resistance.
Cost: £60–£130 per m².
Styling: Elegant veining and natural colours make it ideal for luxurious outdoor areas. Available in whites, greys and earthy tones.
Porcelain or Ceramic
Pros: Porcelain and ceramic worktops are highly durable and come in many more finishes, from blocks of bright colour to marble effect. It's resistant to heat, scratching and staining, and is also very hygienic
Cons: Care needs to be taken with heavy objects as porcelain can be more brittle if using a thinner profile.

Styling: Endless variations
All of the above need to be installed by experts to ensure longevity and correct balance. Referring especially to granite which is very heavy, the correct supporting structure is vital
