While everybody is winding down for a long bank holiday weekend, the are still hard at work……. Thanks to the commitment of everybody involved at Azul, we worked overnight to hand over another fantastic new entrance screen for Yorkshire Trading Company’s new store in Garstang, just in time for them to open on Saturday morning. The entrance screen designed in house to customers specification with reinforced glazing provides a modern and secure 1 way lobby system to ensure loss prevention while maintaining a DDA complaint solution for their customers. All that remains is the customer manifestations and directional signage.

I was going to post pictures of an amazing install this week with 7 new communal doors which we installed for a local customer but felt this picture from our staff wishing each other happy Friday on our WhatsApp group was more appropriate. The picture represents what the is all about, happy staff – happy customers and an amazing service with good value and best quality.

Well, that’s a wrap……. With all the publicised budgetary restraints of our local airport, over the last 8 years have been working hard in the background to keep the old, powered doors going by constant preventative maintenance and the care and attention of our engineers. When budget allowed, we have been replacing these as they failed and installing pocket screens to protect passengers.

Yesterday marked a monumental achievement for us all at Azul, as we have proudly replaced the last, poorly retrofitted sliding door on the arrivals inner which included bespoke glass pocket doors to protect users. As all the powered doors within the terminal are now we expect no further unreliability with the automation and look forward to keeping these doors operational for the airport for many more years to come.

We have included a few pictures of the last 8 years and feel privileged to be a part of the rebirth of our which included the renovation of the terminal back in 2021 when we are asked, at short notice, to design and replace most of the fixed screens on the departure gates including 5 Record E-STA 20 security powered sliding doors onto the apron, windows and several internal fixed screens.

Normally we like to post pictures of our latest installations to showcase our quality and attention to detail. However today this is a picture of an installation from 2017, completed by our now lead engineer. The reason for the post, is this pair of Record DFA 127 swing door operators have, through an oversight of our customer not been serviced for the last 5 years due to losing touch with them during Covid. Our visit today was not due to fault or unreliability, but as the customer had realised the requirement for servicing and booked a visit. The reliability of the door operators over the last 5 years is testament to the quality of the product and the original installation. After a good clean and service, we would hope the product will continue for at least another 9 years of reliable operation.

A very good customer of 9 years approached us recently requesting a new entrance screen for the planned refurbishment of their Driffield store. Our brief was to design a robust draft lobby with entrances wide enough for deliveries which would also include a secure 1-way system without risk of opening the opposing security doors accidently, preventing losses from the store. To ensure good visuals we provided our customer with an artist impression and dimensions for the customers contractor to form apertures for the frames and our usual drawings and detailed quotation.

Last week we installed on a very short lead time (Less than 2 weeks) 28 meters of reinforced Senior Systems SGD-SD Framework, reinforced double glazed eco glass, 3 Record STA 20 sliding doors and an ingenious system where the internal exit door would activate the external entrance door when customers passed through the entrance. This improved the activation distance allowing the exit door to be positioned closer to the entrance door guiding customers away from the internal security door without risking interference from the sensors and false activation.

Normally these systems are designed by Darren our Technical manager, but before he had the chance to investigate, Paul our lead engineer had already suggested a system which would use a function within the sliding door allowing control of the outer door through an useful output which is normally used to alert of entering users on busy pavements where the door can be constantly opening from passing traffic. The function aptly named “doorbell” will not sound when the door opens but only when the door is opened and a user passes through the entrance simultaneously. In this application this would prevent nuisance opening, keeping heat in the store and the outer door closed until required. As part of our risk assessment of the escape route / exit, this system also triggers open the outer door early ensuring safer egress and compliance.

As this was last minute, we had 4 of the on the project for 2 very long days and with the hard work and commitment of the engineers, managed to hand the completed installation over at 19.30 on the Friday evening allowing our customer to open the store a day early on Saturday morning.

We would like to wish YTC Driffield all the success with the store and are only saddened as we didn’t get the opportunity to see the finished painted entrance and customers decals applied to our new doors and frames.

Sometimes it is important to take the opportunity to not worry about profit but about making a difference to your community.

Illustrated by a recent install for TASC in Middlesbrough, a local charity we’ve proudly supported for 8 years. When their 20-year-old sliding door failed, we replaced it quickly and at cost. Their new Record D-STA 20 should keep things running smoothly for many years to come — always happy to support our local community.

Its all about the specifying, using an automatic door specialist ensures a powered door is going to be safe and provide many years reliable service.

Recently a customer approached us to ask if we could supply a new automated swing door as part of a refurbishment project to the building’s external doors and windows. After visiting the entrance, we noticed compliance issues due to the location of a structural collum that the original powered door opened onto. The door also door opened inwards on a fire escape route which could risk congestion. After discussing options with the customer, it was not possible to modify the entrance to allow the installation of a full frame as this could infringe on planning permission. We took this information and designed a bespoke slimline framed powered door which would be more appropriate for the users, without a reduction in opening width and would ensure a compliant escape route. We were also asked to reposition the call point which was also designed into the frame.

On the same building we also replaced a timber exit door on a side entrance. The frame was designed to provide a more accessible solution for residents including integration with the building’s intercom and access control. We also repositioned the frame inwards to ensure the door operator has a stable mounting platform improving reliability and aesthetics.

All that is remaining is re-decorating which the customer offered to complete after we had finished

From feedback this morning the customer and residents are all delighted with the results, and we are pleased to achieve another safe and complaint installation, ensuring residents have accessible access to their homes. We are also proud of our engineers who worked tirelessly for 3 very long days to create such a great installation and ensure this was completed with minimal disruption to the residents.

Some time ago, we were asked to automate three timber doors on a historic local council building to provide DDA access. Recently the same customer, who was so impressed with the quality of the product and the attention to detail of our engineers, asked if we could complete another 19 entrances including a new aluminium frame and doors. After extensive planning we have over the last two weeks delivered new automation predominantly overnight to prevent any disruption to the staff. Thanks to the hard work of our specialist engineers, on Saturday evening we completed the last installation of the new aluminium entrance screen and we’re proud to sign off the project with a very happy customer.

Back in the summer we designed and installed 4 glass screens for a very good local customer who requested a solution to isolate student toilets without spoiling to look of the building. To ensure a robust solution we specified a premium glass system, powder coated colour matched substantial aluminium surrounds and 12mm toughened glass. Customer is delighted with the products, and it was great to see the result a few days ago with the customers manifestations which really make the entrances stand out. After 5 months of use it was also great to see the entrance still looking as good as the day these were handed over.
