Emergency Heating Oil Scheme – Applications Now Open
The Advice Direct Scotland has announced the launch of the Emergency Heating Oil Scheme, which aims to support households facing increased costs of heating oil or LPG.

Applications opened on Wednesday 1 April.
Households can apply:
Online: via the website above
By phone: 0800 048 7413 for assistance
Where possible, payments will be made directly to the fuel supplier.
Eligibility
To qualify for a payment you must:
Be the bill payer in a home where the primary heating fuel is oil or liquid petroleum gas (LPG)
The property must be your only or main residence
Have purchased fuel after 1 April 2026 or be planning to place an order shortly
Not have received an award for the same household at the same address within the last three calendar months
Automatic Qualification
You will automatically qualify if you receive one of the following means-tested benefits:
Universal Credit (including Scottish Child Payment)
Housing Benefit
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
Income-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Pension Credit
Discretionary Support
You may also qualify through a discretionary decision if you:
Are experiencing financial hardship, but do not currently receive a low-income benefit, and
Are at risk of self-rationing heating, particularly if there is a priority need for heat due to health conditions, age, disability, rural location, or other vulnerability.
This support is intended to help households most affected by the rising cost of heating fuel.
