Maker’s tip: add your own label.

It may seem like a tiny detail, but it gives your work identity and makes the finished piece feel more complete.

This one is sewn onto a Roman blind I made - subtle, simple, and personal.

A small signature that says: made with care, made by hand, made by me.

Inserting hooks to a finished pinch pleat curtain can be quite tricky and unpleasant to your fingers especially if you have a lot to do. Make it a bit easier by working smarter not harder :)

Where it all begins…

Starting with a hand-sewn hem using a traditional slip stitch- an essential foundation when making interlined pinch pleat curtains.

Even though these origami-inspired chairs by .design are surprisingly comfortable, some of us still preferred a softer feel when sitting.

So I added simple seat pads to make everyday use just that little bit more comfortable.

The fabric is inspired by the Scottish thistle, designed by and it fits beautifully into this open-plan, mixed-style space, where a few of Mairi Helena’s pieces are already part of the interior.

A very inspiring day yesterday at the Scottish Interiors Showcase.

It was a pleasure speaking with so many knowledgeable and genuinely lovely representatives, discovering new collections and ordering fabric samples for upcoming projects. There’s nothing quite like seeing and feeling the fabrics in person- the texture, weight and movement tell you so much more than a catalogue ever could.

I also had the chance to meet fellow upholsterers and soft furnishers, which is always encouraging. Sharing experiences and ideas within our craft community is something I truly value.

And yes… I may have found the perfect fabric for my next project. Watch this space.

3 pinch pleat- refined in different ways.

The same classic heading.
Two subtly different finishes.

The pleat on the left creates a more defined, architectural line.
The one on the right allows the fabric to fall more softly and naturally.

It’s the depth of the fold.
The shaping by hand.
The tension of the stitch.

Small decisions that influence the overall feel of a room.

Because bespoke curtains are not just made but
they are crafted.

Finally back to what makes me feel accomplished. My shoulder is still not 100% but after being frozen for 18 months there is a little improvement in the movement and not as agonising as it was 🙂 so I can do things and move furniture around !
