The business was originally part of Potburys Furniture Shop and Auction rooms in Sidmouth owned by the Lee family. In 1992 the funeral business was acquired by Grassby & Sons, an independent family run funeral business with their main office in Dorchester, Dorset. In 2015 Potburys acquired new premises at 111 High St in Sidmouth. These premises have been sensitively renovated to incorporate new of
fices, arrangement rooms and a chapel of rest facility. The business is able to provide a very high standard of service to the Sidmouth and East Devon community, with Funeral Directors Corinne Sycamore and Colin Comber responsible for arranging and conducting all local funerals. Grassby & Sons have four other branches in Dorset which are located in Weymouth, Wyke Regis, Blandford Forum and Sturminster Newton. All branches are supported by the masonry works at Grassby Memorials located just outside Dorchester in the village of Grimstone which has been operating since 1861. Potburys Funeral Service are members of NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors) and SAIF (National Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors).
