Stonk Knots Stonk Knots combine traditional knotting techniques and expertise with contemporary ideas to produce rope accessories for the home, garden or boat.

We are also available to run workshops for adults and children. The palindrome "Stonk Knots" reflects the backwards-forwards, do-undo essence of knot tying. High spec ropes, cords and twines are skilfully knotted, spliced and netted by hand, incorporating many of the traditional sailor's knots and whippings such as the Monkey Fist, the Manrope Knot and the Turks Head Weave. Our emphasis is on sour

cing top quality materials: high grade natural plant fibre ropes - hemp, cotton, flax and manila, and some of the best quality synthetic ropes available, such as spun polyester. With over twenty years of experience and an extensive knowledge of ropes and practical knotwork, we have built up a reputation for distinctive high quality design and reliable service. Making up a rope with 3-ply manrope knots today. This involves following the knot around a 3rd time so it's bigger and more complex. We don't always make these, the 2 plys are more usual, but every now and then someone orders these. When made carefully they come up looking quite pretty! :)

Making up an eye splice in a wound rope today. Ropes on ships were traditionally wound and then "parcelled" (wrapped in canvas) to protect them from grit and salt water. We wind our ropes by hand - just for decoration though as they usually don't end up being dragged through the sea!

Making Turks Head whippings for eye splices in the workshop today. When the ends of the splice are cut and bound the whipping is tightened over them to make a neat finish. Although they're small, the Turks Heads each take about 45 minutes to make and tighten!
