It’s been a while!
Today marks exactly a year since the fire and we haven’t posted many updates…
We have been very busy behind the scenes, dealing with the trauma/ practicalities of the immediate aftermath, then trying to work out a way forward out of the mess…
No income, no routine and the loss of so much stuff, projects and treasured items , meant at first things looked bleak and overwhelming. We were so lucky to have very good friends and family to help hold us together. The sheer amount of admin and legal wrangling etc was also overwhelming- anyone with a business PLEASE check your lease, check your insurance terms and what you have and haven’t covered, check everything! We were lucky to be insured with NFU- I would very much recommend them if anyone out there is looking!
Buy more fire extinguishers than you need. Ask questions of your landlord if you feel anything isn’t right.

The last month has been quite tricky- we have had to go back to the site to empty a store - it is so bleak and soul destroying seeing what used to be such a large part of our life reduced to a pile.

We still are not sure exactly what the future holds, but James is working hard to get a new range of ideas and creations going (furniture, lighting and some amazing statement handles for cabinets and doors) & we will be launching a new website very soon!

We are narrowing the range of what we will offer, focusing on our new metal finishes that he had been working on in the months before the fire.

James & I are so unbelievably touched by everyone’s kind words and messages... this big tough man cried for the first time in 10 years reading them. Thank you so much it means the world.
It feels awful and humiliating to do this but we had some bad news today regarding the insurance & things are going to be much more complex, awful and drawn out than we had hoped. Our gorgeous eldest son Archie (a bit bigger now than in the photo) rushed home from uni to be with us and was so upset that after reading all the comments from all you lovely people asking how you can help, he organised this Gofundme to help us through what lies ahead. X

I am shaking as I write this. Everything has gone. Those of you that know us and have followed James will understand that this building and this business was everything to him. He literally put blood,sweat & tears into his work. He came here to work, to escape, to toil and to create. He is always experimenting, collecting and trialling new things. 30 years of his favourite antiques, tools, new machines - everything is beyond destroyed.
I drove there having seen smoke from our house and couldn’t reach James on his phone. As I approached I could see it was our farm, then our building unit and I was terrified- thank God I found him but I thought he had gone too. All we have left is the mask he wore to try and put the fire out before it overwhelmed him. Amazing help from the guys next door who got him to get out.
We had such hopes and dreams- we had just got the unit transformed to have a space for me to take my workshop classes - the new metal finishes and furniture range that he’s been working tirelessly on, were really starting to really get noticed and we had a real excitement for the future.
James has lost his phone in the fire so can’t take messages or calls. He has access to Instagram.
We don’t know what is going to happen but we will try to rebuild somehow.
