Busy day on Sunday 24th May for Rye Harbour RNLI station.

First shout at 0911 for an incident in the river.

Second shout at 1610 for a missing child at Camber. The boat conducted a shoreline search and nothing was found. Our colleagues from Romney Marsh Coastguard Rescue Team found the child safely ashore and Rye Harbour Lifeboat “Hello Herbie II” was stood down and returned to station for wash down and refuelling.

Mark Stephenson (LOM) commented “I cannot say how proud I am of all the crew at our station. They responded quickly and efficiently to two very different shouts and were a credit to themselves and the whole station”.

Shout number 3 of 2026. On Monday 13 April at 2016 we received a tasking request from Solent Coastguard to a 33 feet motor vessel which had lost all power off Camber Sands.

At 2017 the crew were alerted via pager and quickly gathered at the station. A briefing took place and the lifeboat launched into the River Rother at 2034. They proceeded to the casualty vessel which had 2 pob. After assessing the situation, it was determined that the safest way to help would be to tow the casualty back to Rye Harbour. This was accomplished and after a thorough wash down of the lifeboat, tractor and trailer and a debriefing the crew left for home around 2300.

LOM, Mark Stephenson said “This was a textbook operation which all the hours of training our crews perform meant the operation could be completed successfully with no issues. I am proud of all our crew who give so much time to help save lives at sea. The 2 pob on board the vessel are safe and well.”
