Last night we had the pleasure of attending the Beamish hall wedding fair. It was great to meet lots of couples to meet one of our barn owls along with our young white faced owl.

We are delighted to introduce Ged, one of our new team members. He has past experience working with birds of prey and after just a few visits to different venues he is already receiving wonderful feedback.

Day 2 of the Astle park country show. Although Axel (Harris hawk) was the best flyer again, we have to hand it to Hugo who was hilarious with his running around. He didn’t really want to fly even up to a training perch. But at 18 years old who blame him really?

Day 1 of the Astle park country show and 2 of 4 flying shows are now completed…the star of the show is Axel, our 3 year old Harris hawk who absolutely stole the show. Swooping from tree to tree, diving in over the audience’s heads a s just generally showing off.

Looking forward to providing flying shows for this event this weekend!

In the last few weeks we’ve had a number of phone calls about baby owls that have ‘ fallen out of the nest’. This certainly is what it looks like. However, as seen in this photo here, Tawny owls (Strix Aluco) are well-known for ‘branching’ which is all part of their natural learning and gaining strength into a juvenile that’s can fly.
The best advice is to not touch the owl as it will be okay, able to climb back up the tree when ready and often the parents will help. Once a human has interacted the parents will most likely abandon their young.
So if you ever spot an hour like this, the best advice we can give is to leave it alone and if possible, check again at a distance the following morning. If the owl is still there then it is worth contacting your local bird of rescue service.
