Gardeners Cottage at Growing With Nature

Gardeners Cottage at Growing With Nature Gardeners Cottage at Growing with Nature The cottage boasts a staircase made from an oak tree as the main attraction. The area is well known for cycling.

Gardeners Cottage, owned and built by Alan and Debra Schofield,is available to rent on a weekly basis from April to October www.growing-with-nature.co.uk

Based just outside the village of Pilling, Lancashire situated 10 miles from Lancaster ,Preston and Blackpool, the Gardeners cottage was built by Alan & Debra and a team of local craftsmen. The window sills and skirting boards are made from t

he wany edges of the tree. A local artist has left his mark on the inside with a mural of French Beans and Morning glory. The Lakeland slate roof was recycled from a mill and the stone gables from a local watermill which was taken down whilst we were building. The timber cladding to front and back are locally sourced Douglas Fir used for their high resin content which makes them resistant to the weather. The house is highly insulated with recycled newspaper (Warmcell) and has a wood burning stove (Clearview) for those chilly evenings. The Cottage accommodates six people with ease in two double bedrooms with a double bed settee on the ground floor. The bathroom has a rain shower and whirlpool bath. The Gardeners Cottage stands in just under ½ acre of woodland garden and is on the organic market garden of Growing with Nature. See www.growing-with-nature.co.uk for more info on us. The garden is set out to attract, provide food and a home for, birds. After dark the bats, are regular visitors to the garden. The barn owl and tawny owl are frequently seen as they hunt along the dykes and ditches. The summer months see swallows and the Greater Spotted Woodpecker has been calling this winter as well as the first buzzard to fly over Pilling has made it’s home locally and is now a daily sight. It is also a clear sky location with no nearby streetlights for the astronomically minded. The views across the fields are extensive and we get some spectacular sunsets under the large sky. Maybe the kids want to put up their tents in the garden. The Lake District and the Forest of Bowland are just 45 minutes away by car. The Lancaster Canal is also nearby and boats are available for daily hire. So if you are looking to stay somewhere different with access to a private garden with a gazebo which gives shade from the mid day sun and a bonfire and barbeque area for those long hazy summer nights where you could entertain your family and friends then the Gardeners Cottage is a must.
