Please may I tell you a little story?
I had the idea of starting a business in pre-loved furniture when Andy and I were clearing a garage of a deceased person and the instructions were to tip everything as “there’s nothing of value in here.” I knew there was though, so Flipit was created on 19 July 2021. I found The Barn and started to collect and buy in furniture thinking ‘this barn is a huge space, I’ll never fill it!’ Ha ha ha oh but I did though! The stairs were built so I could access the loft too.
Then came the opportunity to trade from a shop so Flipit Shop opened on 9 July 2022. I loved it! Having a direct connection to customers and to sell the furniture and knickknacks while chatting was brilliant.
I had to face the reality of incoming funds not meeting the requirements to cover expenses and Flipit Shop closed on 9 September 2023.
I continued to trade as I had originally, from the barn through Facebook but this is harder than you might think!
In November 2024 I realised that the lease on the barn was expiring at the end of January 2025 I didn’t want to renew it. So the Sale started. Gradually decreasing the prices and ending up giving stock away for free! I closed the barn doors yesterday at 4.30pm with a tinge of sadness, a bit of relief but mainly I felt proud of myself for at least trying! Who knows if I’d done things differently, had a more business state of mind rather than being ME, the outcome may have been different.
Anyway, this post is not a whinge or feeling sorry for myself. It’s a celebration and a chance for me to show my gratitude to my family and friends, old and new and to thank you all for sharing my Flipit experience with me.
Let’s see what happens next.
Thank you, Naomi x
