EcoElm At EcoElm we make beautiful pieces for home and garden from mature English elm. I decided to try and save the timber.

East Sussex now contains the only population of mature elms in the world; amazingly there are now more elms here than before Dutch Elm Disease arrived in the early 1970s. This success results from the rigorous enforcement of a control zone and vigilance to ensure that diseased trees are removed. Some years ago, I was working on an old building in Berwick where diseased elms had to be felled. The b

ark was removed and the trunks sawn into planks. Now, after several years of natural seasoning the timber is ready.
