10 years ago, whilst my partner was pregnant with our daughter, I took the decision to give up my job at Becton Dickinson and try my hand at upholstery.
With a seamstress for a Mum and a childhood watching her patiently sew and modelling her creations, using a sewing machine seemed second nature to me.
I enrolled on a campervan upholstery course, invested in a second hand industrial sewing machine and made my first set of camper seats for our camper (at the time) - Dolly.
Ianteriors was born on this day 10 years ago.
To help make ends meet whilst I honed my skills, I got myself a part time job at Halfords as a bike mechanic. Gradually the work started coming and I was able to drop the hours at Halfords. 10 years later I am proud to have created my own small business doing something I love and can be proud of.
Being self employed means I can do the school runs, work around family commitments, take off the odd sunny day to go out on my bike and more recently welcome our pup - and workshop companion - Noodle.
I’ve worked on campers, boats, sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, motorbike seats, bench seating and countless bespoke creations.
I am grateful to every single customer, friend and family member who has supported me, I couldn’t have done this without you. I can’t quite believe it’s been 10 years since I was brave enough to make the move.
Tonight I’m having a beer with the apprentice to celebrate🍺 🐾
