⚠️!WARNING!⚠️ SCAM ALERT! if you are following our page, the likelihood is that you may be looking for a sofa on Facebook Marketplace or perhaps have seen our sofa posts in some local groups.
Now... firstly, there are some amazing bargains to be had on Marketplace , loads! From trustworthy people. BUT there are also a LOT of scams!!!!
Unfortunately (especially as of late), we have seen a rise in people who have been looking on Marketplace for their next sofa and have gotten scammed!
This is either by paying and not receiving the item at all, or they receive something that is completely different from what they ordered with horrific build quality.....that turns up at 3AM!!!!!
This post is simply to help and create awareness on what to look out for! And maybe even some tips to help avoid falling victim to these scams!
We have even included some screenshots to give you an example of what we will explain.
Things to beware of:
👉The sellers account: When you click on the sellers profile, was it created very recently (2025?/2026?) perhaps they only have 1 profile picture. Also...ALL their listings are of sofas in lots of different rooms and settings??? This is the first red flag!
(Us and businesses like ours will normally always photograph our sofas in the same areas/room! So nearly all our listings will be very similar in style)
👉Listing Title/Listing: A load of sofa related words that doesn't seem to match the sofa! Minimal photos of the sofa, or photos are all different settings. The term "COD" (Cash on delivery) mentioned, or "DM" for details!
👉Location: If the seller says it's a brand new sofa coming from: Manchester/Birmingham or up north in general then be VERY cautious! We are NOT saying that this will always be a negative experience and there may be some happy customers out there, however we have had over 20 people in the last 2 months that have ordered from those sellers, and nearly all of them have mentioned that the sofa turned up between 1am-3am 🤦♂️ the colour may have been completely different from what they ordered, or lots of different mismatched fabrics! One even ordered a round swivle cuddle chair, which turned up with a small square cushion to fit it, bulked out with lots of padding hidden by the packaging 😭 so they only noticed once they got it inside (at 2.30am 😬)
...ALL of these customers said that trying to get a refund or return from the company was near on impossible! They did they would not reply to their messages, and any that were replied to were met with very abusive and unprofessional language!!!
👉 Deposit: Wanting the bank transfer up front or saying you have to leave a deposit to secure it before you even view the sofa!! DON'T DO THIS! Even if they give you an address and ask you to then send a deposit before going...DON'T! check the address..does it match? If you physically go and see the sofa, and then get a trusting vibe and want to leave a deposit then awesome.
❤️Some helpful tips to searching and "TRYING" to minimise the scams on Marketplace❤️
When you search on Marketplace for a used sofa, use the FILTERS to help in lowering the amount of scam listings you see!
The most helpful filter to tweak would be "Condition"
Try selecting: Used Good & Used Fair! Most of the scam ads will nearly always list their sofas as either "New" or "As good as new" so this can really make a difference.
Location: Try to use the filter and search by nearest first!
Price: Nearly always listed as free or strange prices like: £63 or £84 🤣
Once again, we reiterate that there are lots and lots of trustworthy individuals on Marketplace, and its a brilliant place to grab a bargain!! This post is not to scare, but more to create an awareness and give some advice on what to lookout for 😃
🙌 Happy searching 🙌
