It came as a bit of a shock to learn that myself and Henry Crabb have been selected to participate in HOMO FABER fellowship starting with a trip to Venice next month.
The purpose of the 8-month fellowship is for duos of master artisans and emerging talents to come together for an extended period of time, to facilitate the exchange of skills and enable the further development of our craft careers.
Henry, who initially contacted me a couple of years ago, is a curious, observant, and gentle soul who previously trained and worked in biology before eventually becoming a postman in Cornwall. His love for creating with natural materials led him to furniture making, which he spent a year studying at Rowden Atelier in north Devon. Like many before him, he dreams of designing and making his own furniture using local materials and is inspired by the beauty of the natural environment.
He will be in Venice for a month, I will be there for 5 days. He will then train with me and we will work together on a collaborative piece which will be exhibited at a major International Design Fair in the spring next year. During his time with me he will be helping with all aspects of life in the workshop, so if you're coming on a course over the next eight months you are sure to meet him.
