A tiny kitchen with a very big personality.

Tucked into a shorefront home in the East Neuk of Fife 🏡, this compact space needed to work hard — every millimetre matters when you’re cooking between old stone walls and a sloping staircase.

Earlier this week our lovely client sent us these beautiful photos 📸 of the kitchen in use — swipe through to see how this small space comes together ✨. It’s always such a treat to see a Birkwood kitchen lived in and loved.

We designed calm, functional birch ply cabinetry 🪵 and created essential under-stairs shelving, making sure no space went to waste. The clients chose zinc worktops and splashbacks, a living material that will develop its own patina over time 🌀.

She later told us this little kitchen has become her “favourite part of the house” and that she “couldn’t be happier with what we’ve done.” 🤍
That absolutely made our week.

We’re often asked whether different woods can sit together in a kitchen 🪵

Jackie’s space is a nice reminder that they absolutely can ✅

Birch plywood brings lightness, oak🌳adds warmth underfoot, and the slatted timber wall adds rhythm and texture.

None of them match, but they balance each other beautifully ⚖️ and that’s what makes the room feel layered and alive.

Emma and Chris absolutely were — and look how beautifully it sits with naked birch ply, a punch of colour on the island🏝️, and a whole wall of concealed storage that quietly gets on with the job.

Jenny and John asked us for a walnut kitchen that felt warm, modern and beautifully functional — and we were all in.

This is walnut, but with a joyful streak: book-matched veneer flowing across the cabinetry 🌿, crisp birch ply edges, and those glorious Formica pops adding lift and colour in all the right places. Dark timber, but never heavy.

We added in some favourite Birkwood touches — slide-out chopping boards tucked neatly into the island 🔪, colour-backed open shelving, and a cutlery insert built with the same joints and care as the cabinets themselves (for the craft nerds among you 🤓).

Every part of this kitchen was made to be used, loved and lived in — warm, clever, practical 🤎 💙

Every inch of this towering library wall — shelves, sliding ladder rail, and hidden door — was crafted from birch plywood and hand-painted by our time-served craftsmen at Bannermans Decorators of Perth.

Iain and Lesley's gorgeous kitchen is designed to work hard — and look effortless.

This stunning, contemporary space near Edinburgh, brings together oak-veneered birch plywood with rich Fenix laminate in Grigio Scari, paired with soft Carrara work surfaces from Minerva. It’s a material palette that feels grounded and grown-up, while the clever details keep things quietly joyful.

A mobile island 🏝️ on castors brings flexibility to the layout, whether it’s used for prep, serving, or pulling up a stool.

Fluted glass sliding doors soften the upper cabinetry, while the breakfasting larder ☕ reveals a punch of playful orange behind a smooth pocket-sliding door.

Our signature Patchwork asymmetric cabinetry is everywhere here, thanks to the clients' generous space.

In the utility room, tall cabinetry and concealed compartments make room for everything life brings — from laundry to storage overflow — without compromising on design.

This is a kitchen and utility that balance daily function with long-term beauty. And we love it!
