We work on small batch runs of items such as boxes and tables and we also take commissions and will happily quote for any carpentry or joinery projects. My dream is to run my own workshop making commissions and developing product lines on a made to order basis. I studied furniture at Peter Sefton's Furniture School, where I learnt the basics, during this period I had work experience with Paul Dave
y Cabinet Makers. During our end of year show, Paul came and offered me a job and I have been there for 3 years now. I am hoping to run my own project as a side business until I can afford to do it full time. I have always loved wood, when I was younger I watched my Grandad make things in his garage and when I was old enough I started playing with tools of my own. That was when the love really began. I took DT at school and loved the making side of it, but it never clicked that I could do it as a job until I started looking for uni courses. I found a furniture design course in Leeds and was accepted, everything was all set until my best friend went to look at a Mercedes for his Mum. This is where he met Pete. He wasn't interested in the car, but he was interested in his furniture school and when he got home he rang me. So I contacted Pete and then went to see him at his school and it was amazing. He had real life experience of making furniture and deigning quality stuff. So that was it. My ethos is very minimalist but the cabinet maker in me loves traditional construction so I try to combine the two. My aim is to have no fat in my design, I want everything to have a purpose and using that as my method of design I find it makes the final product very organic. I have been inspired by the arts and craft movement, the shakers and the Scandinavian designers. Some of my favourite makers are Alan Peters, Edward Barnsley, Shaun Feaney and Krenov. I feel as though these makers are honest with there ethos and true to the timber that we use. I have talked to many makers and everyone has there own design process. Mine is that of a problem solver. I like to work with a client to come up with a design that fits the style of the space and the use of the object. I hope you enjoy my work and for more of my pieces visit https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/MatthiasMacDesigns?ref=hdr_shop_menu
I am happy to do commissions and most of my products can be bespoke just ask. Thanks for reading,
Matt.
