There's been a lot of people getting over exited about DeWalt's new "60v flexvolt" tools.
Because i'm a miserable bastard and also because i'm getting tired of explaining it to everyone, Here is some information on why it's a con.
Firstly, Its expressed as 60v, Its a 15 cell battery made up of 3 banks of 3.6v lithium ion batteries connected in series. They're using peak output power as their base measurement where every other manufacturer uses the cells nominal voltage multiplied by the number of cells. So in reality its a 54v battery not 60v.

Secondly, Its not always a 54v battery, When the tool switches modes or when used on a "20v" (18v) tool it links its cell packs in paralel rather than series. This turns it from a 54v 2ah battery into an 18v 6ah battery. In case you've not noticed, we have those already, and they're cheaper.

Lets look at max output power for a second.
54v x 2a = 108w
18v x 6a = 108w
Where's the gain there? There will be a slight efficiency gain but it'll not be enough to make a difference to the tool.

For my money it's a gimmick designed for those who cant keep their dick in their pants when a new tool is released. If you want more power and more run time you'll need more than 6a @ 18v
Try Milwaukee's new 9a 18v battery.
18v x 9a = 162w

This is what happens when eBay customers get Penryn in Wales and the Mighty borough of Shag-town mixed up. I said collection only for a reason! 4x2, most of a pallet and a whole load of plywood later this pole pruner is looking suitably reinforced. I bet Clumsy and Co couriers still manage to smash it though.

Epic day at Force 10 towers.
38 tools processed by Dom and myself in 26 man hours.
Half midnight finish, curry for dinner and completely smashed the pile up of work from a week off. Feels good to be 4 days ahead of schedule!
